ABC News Online: US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says Donald Trump is building a 'new liberal order'
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says President Donald Trump is not "abandoning American leadership" around the world, and is in fact building a "new liberal order that prevents war".
Mr Pompeo is in Brussels for talks among foreign ministers at NATO, where its European members have been criticised by Mr Trump for failing to spend enough on their own defence and relying too much on Washington.
But the Trump administration has also come under fire in-turn from these allies, having voiced their concerns over the US's commitment to the alliance.

So the Pompeo's a stand up comic and being Sec. State is his side gig?
I mean Trump building a "new liberal order that prevents war" is an OK joke. Not great but OK.
"Among the institutions that Mr. Pompeo criticized were the United Nations, the European Union, the Organization of American States and the African Union. But he embraced NATO, which President Trump has harshly criticized, as an “indispensable institution.” "
Pompeo is speaking some truth here. NATO is overwhelmingly a non-EU organization as the movers and shakers in NATO all are outside the EU. Non EU states Norway, USA, Canada, Turkey and soon Britain pay 80% of military spending of all NATO members. The US vitally needs the Atlantic under our control and NATO helps ensure it is and guess what except for Turkey all the others are Atlantic maritimes. What does the EU do for the USA? Siphon US defense dollars to defend Germany. Why do that? Not in the USA's interest anymore. What good has the UN done in the last 20 years? Rwanda? Bosnia? Syria? Its a siphon for cash and nothing else.
Long past time for the US to rethink its alliances in the new multi-polar world fast approaching.
