UN News: US resolution to condemn activities of Hamas voted down in General Assembly

Although a majority of UN Member States voted in favour of a General Assembly resolution put forward by the United States – condemning the activities of Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza – it failed to be adopted on Thursday at UN Headquarters in New York.

The resolution condemned Hamas for “repeatedly firing rockets into Israel and for inciting violence, thereby putting civilians at risk”, and for its use of resources in Gaza to construct military infrastructure “including tunnels to infiltrate Israel and equipment to launch rockets into civilian areas”.

It specified that further engagement by the UN Secretary-General, and the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, in efforts to de-escalate the situation in Gaza, was also needed.

Has the world prepared for the day when the USA says I quit from the Middle East? Kuwait you are in your own. Saudii Arabia? You are on your own.

Anon (8:53PM),

I suspect they have not. As for Israel, I think they'll be better off without the US acting to restrain and undermine them. Once the "Palestinians" realize America isn't coming to their rescue as we have in the past, they may actually be more inclined to negotiate in good faith. As such, I think a genuine peace process might actually be advanced.

As for Saudi Arabia, we (and they) are in a battle for our very survival against Iran. We have very few supporters in this effort. Just how bright is it for our "leaders" to act out over the death of a Muslim Brotherhood supporting, Israel hating, blood thirsty Palestinian loving, and Osama Bin Laden buddy "journalist?" I don't think our "leaders" are bright enough to get the fact that they are being manipulated by anti-American elements. These are rather dim bulbs, in my considered opinion.

Add to the mix, the Saudi government isn't exactly very stable and any replacement is going to be far worse than the current government. I'll bet the combination of incompetent boobs and left wing political hacks who privided the reports used to brief our "leaders," didn't even bother to 'splain that. I'm pretty sure these dim bulbs can't even think through such things.

Without the United States in the Middle East Saudi Arabia would actually be better able to deal with our joint Iranian problem. Add to this the fact that the American military is worn down, nearly broken, suffering from poor training, and low morale largely because of all of these non-sensical missions all over the world. At this point, we may be able to do basic national defense but little more.

For the love of God, get us out of the Middle East preferably with a modicum of dignity but a minimum with our very survival. Our security and economic interests may well depend on this!!

That's completely expected. Could you imagine USA not condemn if we send rocket in Mexico?... even only one? Of course not! Hamas send "good rockets", western one are very bad. I don't know why we are still in this dirty UN.

Good point Jac; "good rockets" vs. bad ones.

Much of the UN lost me years ago. Empty suits spending much money. Good for DJT making a funds cutting gesture even the suits can understand and that can be better used in America.
