CBC: Singh calls on Trudeau to part ways with U.S., Brazil on Venezuela crisis
'It is shameful that the government ... and Justin Trudeau, is lining up with Donald Trump': Svend Robinson
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is calling on the Liberal government to abandon its decision to side with the U.S. and Brazil over the crisis in Venezuela — hours after two NDP candidates and one MP came out with much stronger statements condemning Ottawa's move as failing to stand up for Venezuelans.
Singh issued the short statement outlining his position Thursday after NDP MP Niki Ashton and candidate Jessa McLean joined candidate Svend Robinson in attacking Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his government for making common cause with the Trump administration and the right-wing government of Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil over Venezuela.

WNU Editor: From praising Chavez when he was in power to now taking the position that they will continue to recognize the Maduro regime even though he has brought insufferable suffering to almost every Venezuelan .... to say that I am disappointed with how progressives have reacted to the crisis in Venezuela is an understatement. The crisis in Venezuela involves more than just the U.S. or Brazil. It involves every Venezuelan who wants a better life. It involves every country that borders Venezuela who are now being flooded by millions of Venezuelans desperate to survive. And it involves much of the international community, starting with out European allies who are on the verge of recognizing the opposition .... Spain, France, Germany and the UK to recognise Guaido as Venezuela's president unless Maduro calls elections (Al Jazeera). Progressives are on the wrong side of history on this one, starting with Canada's NDP.

So if they call Bolsanaro a fascist I guess it’s far to call progressives communists.
By pursuing shutdown, Trump revealed how much America depends on government
Actually most people were doing fine while the government while the government was "shut down." The trick became to a psy ops campaign to try and make people sacrifice essential border security in order to placate non essential personnel whose pain was/is only temporary and especially so when compared to the mid to long term pain that the lack of proper border security is going to cause along with getting people to not pay attention to the current problems associated with a lack of border security.
The problem is the 800,000 or so government personnel whose pain is only temporary and pales in comparison to the current problems many are experiencing due to lack of border security have armies of lobbyists, cadres of media personnel to carry their message, and other powerful groups to represent them. Those being negatively impacted by the lack of proper border security do not have this.
Essentially some would wish to sacrifice the overall interests of America in order to placate a small but powerful group. Unfortunately this is nothing new.
As I understand it, the current situation is good for three weeks. Hopefully the parties can find an amicable solution. If not, POTUS may have no choice but to cave or to declare a national emergency allowing us to begin addressing this issue in a proper manner. If he chooses to cave, this would not be the first time a politician has caved to powerful but unscrupulous special interests. If he chooses to properly address the issue, this means a fight with such interests.
Will he choose to represent the broader interests of the American people? Will he win such a fight? If he does, America has a fighting chance to survive. If not, at some point the problems associated with the lack of proper border security of which a necessary component would be a border wall IMHO in certain areas will begin to be felt by the elites. At that point, it may be to late to correct the problem. I'd liken it to a health problem a person might have that if not addressed in time ends up costing them their lives.
Unfortunately the broader interests of the American have been sacrificed in the past in order to placate those who are more powerful than they are whose perceived interests run contrary to them. Hopefully this time will be different.
The topic of the editor's post was supposed to be about the situation in Venezuela and not the government shutdown. I've explained elsewhere what I think the likely outcome is going to be. Essentially our interference here is going to make things worse for us and for Venezuela's neighbors.
Our involvements in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, and Libya just to name a few have made things worse in those countries or so it would seem. Our editor who is normally very cautious and circumspect about our involvement in such things. In this case, he appears to be suggesting opposing the Maduro government is the right thing to do both morally and strategically. While I could argue that it is morally the right thing to do, I'm not seeing how this makes sense strategically given the likely outcome of a Maduro victory, expansion of Russian and Chinese influence in Central and South America, and further torching of any diplomatic avenues we might have been able to pursue with Russia, China, and their allies.
Add to this, the "plan" as I have seen it to date seems every bit as hare brained and ill conceived as the previous plans that didn't end well for us. It would seem we are stuck hoping that yet another hare brained, ill thought out, and poorly time scheme will somehow end differently than others have. That is unless this situation is somehow different from previous ones. How exactly is this situation different and why should we expect a different result than previous ones?
There was a shutdown 325 million people lived just fine. 800 thousand had difficulties and sometimes great difficulties. Some of the 800,000 furloughed had very few difficulties if they were from a 2 income households.
I'm just amazed at how many federal employees don't have a credit card, mind blowing!
Face it, usa only cares because they see money
They don't give a shit about any citizen of Venezuela. Stop trying to pretend that usa is there to ever help Venezuela. Usa only helps itself, which is why the world despises usa and the power struggle is growing
And then there was China...
Editor: Is the Canadian government following international law in their decision?
Postman: we know and could readily predict your position.
The same one, oddly, taken by ...yes: PUTIN...how strange, no?

Does the editor answer questions???
Right, hater.
Yes, usually but not always.
Too bad. The Editor makes statements of fact but refuses to provide their simple basis by ignoring simple clarification questions.
Why should the U.S care about Venezuela? People at the bottom will always hate the people at the top.... no matter who’s there.
Answer...gulf coast refineries run on heavy oil. Few sources. Venezuela is one source. Russian bases. Care? You bet.

Crude oil entering Gulf Coast refineries has become lighter as imports have declined
Dang man, read a book why don't you.
Heavy or light refineries can handle it. there is fractional distillation and the the heavier products/crude can be cracked into lighter products.
Heavier crude takes more energy to break it up into lighter products such as gasoline.
Maybe we do not want that Venezuelan stuff that is tar are one step above tar?

Just how much coke or asphalt do you want man?
Golly, have to send your new information to the gulf oil refineries to let them know that they can now write off Venezuela as a source of crude. I will also write to President Monroe on your behalf. You have Made America Great Again. God bless.
Golly Moron 9:48 PM you intimated with your post that the US would invaded Venezuela just to keep the heavy crude flowing to the refineries to keep them up and running.
I showed that those refineries could run on light or heavy crude thank you very much and all you can do is come back with snark.
Pick up a book moron and start reading and learning.
In your case any book would be of great assistance to you.
Here try this one.
