CNN: Former US envoy to anti-ISIS coalition says Trump has given 'new life' to terror group
Washington (CNN)The former US envoy for the anti-ISIS coalition, who resigned last month because of the President's abrupt decision to pull US forces out of Syria, has penned an op-ed arguing that Donald Trump has given the terrorist group "new life."
"The irony is that defeating the Islamic State is what the president said from the beginning was his goal. In 2016, he vowed to 'knock the hell out of ISIS.' His recent choices, unfortunately, are already giving the Islamic State — and other American adversaries — new life," Brett McGurk, the former special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS, wrote in an Washington Post op-ed published Friday.

WNU Editor: The ideology that spawned ISIS is still, and will be for the foreseeable future. But to say that President Trump has given "new life" to ISIS is premature, especially in view of how much ISIS has lost its "Caliphate" from the time that President Trump was inaugurated to today.

If by pulling out and encouraging ISIS. then YES
The West will never prevail against groups such as ISIS as long as it maintains the fantasy that it is an ideological perversion of Islam.
Even if that were true, the West is fighting those who are acting on the ideology, while supporting those who are spreading it worldwide (Saudi) or showing a very weak response to those who are at the very least covertly aiding it (Iran)
Four Americans getting blown up is a sign the war in Syria is entering a new phase, and not a thing to do with ISIS gaining strength. Terror tactics will be the norm against the USA and Kurdish forces, typical of the militarily weak. Also Iran will get in on the act. Peace keeping is the new job for the Kurds and USA forces making them vulnerable to these sorts of attacks. Exactly why US troops shold pull come home.

I think the last guy was the one that stepped neck deep into ISIS, criticizing the current administration is a real stretch.
It was the US that gave ISIS life in the first place, beginning with the US invasion and occupation of Iraq which the Cheney/Rumsfeld gang turned into an incubator for radical jihadi groups. Then Obama came in and obliterated Libya, from wence jiahdis and airplane loads of weapons flowed into Syria. US policy under Obama was to use the jihadis for regime change in Syria. that would've been and even bigger disaster than Libya was and this is what the Russians stopped with their intervention beginning in 2015. So, when you here some former policy maker like McGurk say that Trump's withdrawal will give ISIS a new lease on life, know that not only is he a liar, but also a proponent of a policy of permanent warfare.
"It was the US that gave ISIS life in the first place, beginning with the US invasion and occupation of Iraq"
The current round of jihad started in 1979. When they won in 1989, they felt invincible.
ISIS is a spin off of Al Qaeda and Alqaeda got started in the aftermath of the Afghan War.
Read a book. Try The Looming Tower by Lawrence Wright. It is 420 pages; it is doable. Try Ghost Wars by Stephen Coll.
And remember that The Pakistani ISI had final say on which group got how much aid in the 1980s. For some strange reason certain people think the CIA is the only people on the world stage.
