Is American Resurgence Reshaping The World?

Youtube

Conrad Black, National Post: America's resurgence is reshaping the world

The U.S. is demonstrating almost effortlessly how illusory is the idea that any other country or group of countries can challenge its pre-eminence

Almost indiscernible in the endless tumult about President Donald Trump is the objective return of American might, right on our doorstep. A casual sampler of the Canadian, and even the American, media, might think that the United States was so far along in its decline that the entire process of government and normal public discourse had broken down in that country, and that the much-discussed process of national decline was accelerating in a climate of virtual chaos.

In fact, the economy of the United States is astoundingly strong: full employment, an expanding work force, negligible inflation and about three per cent economic growth. And it is a broad economic recovery, not based on service industries as in the United Kingdom (where London handles most of Europe’s financial industry, while most of British industry has fled), and not based largely on the fluctuating resources markets as has often been Canada’s experience.

WNU Editor: There has been a change in the world's view towards the U.S., and it is the economic lever that President Trump is using that has changed this view. In comparison to the rest of the world the U.S. economy is booming, and even though tariffs are now having an impact on world trade, U.S. growth is not stopping. I predict that even the partial U.S. government shutdown is not going to make much of a dent in this economic growth, and may actually over a period make Americans realize that maybe the U.S. government is too big, and there is now some restraint in its growth. Even the White House's commitment to withdraw or downgrade U.S. forces from regions/alliances/and wars that no longer serve U.S. interests is having an impact in reshaping the world, and rightly so. The people in the U.S. do not want to run an empire, and other countries, particularly those who are allies, must reconcile with the uncomfortable realization that that they must spend more for their own defense, and that being reliant on the American taxpayer is no longer an option. If that is not reshaping the world, I do not know what is.

You know who agrees with Black? Go over to Handlesblatt.com and read former FM Sigmar’s column. He bemoans the future world order that Trump, a man Sigmar called a “Hate Preacher” in 2016, is constructing. Fracking having turned the USA into a energy superpower has made it obvious to average Americans we can leave the Middle East tread mill. China has made it obvious they are determined to rip the post war order to shreads.

Awesome. I love contrarian hot takes by stuffy convicts guilty of fraud and obstruction of justice.

This article reads like something my senile, grumpy grandpa would say.

This economic response to the efforts of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize recipient and Bernanke, Krugman, and the like to get the U.S. firing on 8 cylinders again certainly is, so far, not as predicted. And, I might add, a blow to one of the world's larger egos in history. The lack of inflation so far is a big surprise.

Get out of the way, dim-o-crats....the rest of America has things to do.

TSA Strike? As Trump and GOP Refuse to End Shutdown, Call Grows for Federal Workers to Rise Up

Is there something that TSA agents in particular could do that "would turn their plight into a stand not just against the shutdown but also against the arbitrary and insulting way American workers are so often treated in general?"
