FOX News/Warrior Maven: Army considers German-built future armored combat vehicles

The U.S. Army is vigorously pursuing a new combat vehicle able to launch attack drones, carry longer-range TOW missiles, fire a 50mm cannon and operate “optionally-manned” technology, according to initial requirements outlined by service weapons developers.

The Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV), an infantry fighting vehicle, is intended as a high-tech, more mobile and more lethal Bradley. The Army is already working closely with industry on accelerated plans to plans to engineer a mobile infantry carrier able to deploy quickly, traverse rough terrain, keep pace with maneuvering infantry and yet also operate with sufficient protection necessary to thwart the most advanced enemy attacks.

WNU Editor: The German built Lynx is impressive, but I do not see the Pentagon ordering armoured vehicles from a foreign source.

I've always been impressed with the Israeli Merkava tank. Its a main battle tank that can also carry 8 infantry soldiers - in addition to the crew. Or three med-evac litters.

Its a mobile foxhole.

Hezbollah turned them into mobile coffins in 2006.

I'm sure whatever the US Army chooses it will come in under budget and perform flawlessly.

Wait till you see the Eitan which is based on the Merkava chassis. Going into service this year..

Not as many as you seem to think, disabled but not coffins.

Now with Trophy APS which has been battle proven, against Kornet-E, Konkurs and RPG-29, since 2011, it ain't an issue anymore.

Plus, it's that good, that the US will field Trophy on their deployed Tanks in Europe, by 2020 or so they say.

Merkava is not a coffin. The Hezbollan defenses are a Maginot line. Against such things it is not unexpected to take severe losses. All those in such defense can expect to take more than severe losses.
