Does Russia View Its Role In The Afghan War In The !980s With Pride
WNU Editor: According to the AP, Russians now view with pride their involvement in the Afghan war in the 1980s .... 30 years on, Russia views Afghan war with pride (Vladimir Isachenkov, AP). There is a move in Russia to rewrite history on the Soviet Union's invasion and then occupation of Afghanistan from 1979 - 1989, but those who remember the war are not buying it. Ten years of warfare destroyed the country, littered it with more landmines than any other country, and left 15,000 Soviet soldiers dead, and almost a million Afghans casualties.
