Jerusalem Post: German president lauds Iran on revolution that seeks Israel's destruction

The congratulatory note to a regime that seeks the destruction of the Jewish state and the United States of America has raised eyebrows and unleashed criticism on social media.

The president of Germany Frank Walter-Steinmeier sent a congratulatory telegram to Iran's mullah regime in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Islamic revolution in the name of federal republic's citizens.

Germany's largest paper Bild reported on Wednesday "On the 40th anniversary of that day, friendly greetings from Berlin arrived in Tehran by telegram: the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier (63), sends 'Congratulations' on the occasion of the national holiday, 'also in the name of my compatriots."'

WNU Editor: This is one of those ????? moments. I expect his office will be blaming a minor bureaucrat to be responsible for "accidentally" sending this message in the next day or two.

Makes you wonder how a country that stood quiet as millions of Jews were slaughtered "turned off" the anti antisemitism of the Nazi Generation(s)......or has it been underlying all the time.

Frank Walter Steinmeier is accustomed to controversy. He famously called Candidate Trump a "hate preacher" in August 2016. It's easily googled and I attach the Wapo story with that story. This is the guy Merkel wanted as President knowing full well he said this about the future President of the USA. Is there any wonder why Trump has cold shouldered Merkel and Germany? I predict his lauding of Iran stands because it is an affront to Trump in addition to an attempt to curry favor with the Mullahs.

Underlying still I would think and many generations yet to go.

I have a German neighbor in his late 80s, married to a Jewish woman. You couldn't find a nicer guy/couple. He told me some stuff about life in Germany before hell broke out. The restitution following WW I created widespread poverty and people whose homes had been in their families for a couple of centuries had to sell out. The purchasers of these homes often were wealthy Jews. Nothing in his manner suggested bitterness but those kinds of memories, once thy take hold whether real or planted, run long, deep and get passed on to future generations. As he was telling me it brought to mind stuff I had read about the carpetbaggers in the US following the Civil War.
