Daily Mail: Trump claims that '100 percent' of ISIS' territory will be reclaimed by next WEEK then catches himself and says 'I don't want to say too early'
* President Trump claimed Wednesday that a global coalition will have liberated '100 percent' of the territory ISIS once controlled by next week

President Trump claimed Wednesday that a global coalition will have liberated '100 percent' of the territory ISIS once controlled by next week.
The U.S. president admittedly pre-empted a formal announcement as he delivered remarks at a televised State Department event, where he proclaimed, 'I don't want to say too early.'
'The United States military, our coalition partners and the Syrian Democratic forces have liberated virtually all of the territory previously held by ISIS in Syria and Iraq,' he said. 'It should be formally announced sometime probably next week that we will have 100 percent of the caliphate.'

WNU Editor: ISIS is currently just a postage-stamp of what it once was, and what little territory it has will vanish in the weeks to come. As a organized military force it is also finished. Unfortunately, this radical Islamic ideology is going to be with us for a long time, and the terrorism that it spawns probably longer. But is this the reason that U.S. soldiers must remain in eastern Syria? In my opinion no. This is the headache for the current players in the region, and they are the ones who must deal with it.

Editor,
Your editor comment is essentially spot on. I couldn't have put this any better myself. We actually had a large role in spawning a God-awful mess in Syria. It began to turn when Russia got involved and Trump switched the mission from one of "Assad must go" to one focused on fighting ISIS.
WNU is correct. The US right now can leave Syria having destroyed ISIS as a territorial army. Whats left is less than a few square miles out in the wastes of south eastern Syria.
We have trained 10's of thousands of Iraqi and Syrian Kurds, we have armed them with advanced infantry weapons such as javelin anti-tank guns, communications gear, artillery so that they overmatch ISIS forces. Then you have the Iraqi army right now assisting in attacking ISIS in Syria. Assad will reconstitute his territory and will be snuffing out any ISIS cells. In short from now on, the war in Syria is for the locals to deal with cells engaging in domestic terrorism.
By the way the US will still have two large bases keeping watch, one near the Iraqi Syrian border and one in Kurdistan Iraq.
