Russia Claims To Have Tested A Nuclear Powered Cruise Missile (Burevestnik)

Daily Mail: Russia claims to have successfully tested a NUCLEAR-POWERED cruise missile that can fly forever, has an unlimited range and is impossible to shoot down

* The Burevestnik is a nuclear-powered missile which can evade detection
* It is claimed the missile possesses an 'unlimited range' and is extremely agile
* Russia has said it can fly up to ten-times further than any other cruise missile

Russia claims to have successfully tested a nuclear-powered cruise missile - supposedly capable of flying for days on end as it probes weaknesses in Western defence systems.

The Russian state news agency on Friday released a video claiming to show a test of the Burevestnik missile which the Kremlin says is designed to strike over 'unlimited' range and with with unprecedented ability to manoeuvre.

In theory, the Burevestnik could fly forever because it has a nuclear power source, potentially circling the globe until remotely ordered to approach a target and hit it with a nuclear warhead.

can fly forever... yup, sure..

will cause a man made catastrophe < this is true

If you have an object flying for prolonged times, it will require maintenance.. if that maintenance landing cannot be done in time -- all the time (until time as we know stops, because they said "forever" haha) -- it will crash down somewhere, and may present a great weapon (for dirty bomb etc) to someone

Why do Russians always go for such stupid ideas? Common, impress us with good stuff, not cartoon bombs and stupid ideas that risk everyone's life

How long can this nuclear powered cruise missile loiter? Or can it simply circle the earth for a month - tasked at will to whatever target, wherever on earth?

What clap trap. Of course it has to have fuel. All the reactor can do is generate heat or melt that missile. But to move the missile there must be exhaust gases from a chemical like liquid oxygen or hydrogen or methane. So obviously the missile has a finite range.

This is a likely a Russian smoke screen for our ever gullible western press.

anon @ 9:23.. nope.. look up scram jets.. you can just accelerate the available air and exhaust that. The "forever" claim is of course ridiculous.. especially given Russia's famous record for hardware breakdowns.. Russians are great at fixing stuff, because they constantly have to, well, fix stuff. All the time. That's why this rocket is a terrible, terrible idea. Let the Germans build something that has to be that reliable.. but not the Russians, omg
