Business Insider: The US Navy's best sub-hunting aircraft is facing some nagging problems
* The Boeing-made P-8A Poseidon is one of the most advanced maritime-patrol aircraft in service.
* Its high-tech surveillance gear has made it a mainstay of the Navy's air fleet and drawn the interest of allied forces around the world.
* But some nagging problems are affecting the Navy's P-8As, according to a recent Pentagon report.
The P-8A Poseidon, introduced in 2013 to replace the P-3 Orion, has quickly become one of the most highly regarded maritime-patrol aircraft in service, fielded by the Navy and sought after by partner countries all over the world.
But the P-8A is dealing with some lingering issues that could affect the force as a whole, according to the fiscal year 2018 annual report produced by the Pentagon's Office of the Director of Operational Test and Evaluation.

WNU Editor: Maintaining any fleet with the necessary parts and maintenance is always a problem if it is not addressed. This is a money/management/procurement problem.

These drop radio beacons don't they. Despite the glowing review of this aircraft, Russia subs on many occasions have managed to bypass them, just years ago a Russian Sub near Syria played cat and mouse with US forces in the area. Id assume this is less about the aircraft and rather the on board sensor arrays, as in replacing dropped beacons and such. With current air traffic shouldn't we be looking commercially to lower costs by installing even basic arrays on jet liners?

It sounds as if domestic infrastructure breakdown has spread to the military. So much wasted money on death and destruction. Whether it is in the actuality of wars, or in wishing for that actuality it represents lost opportunity for human security and advancement. Not to forget of course the impact of wasted lives.
Canada spent so much money on a socialist's GF, whom he would not marry that they had to lay off 1/2 their military. So, the US had to cover it, which led to parts shortages.
