Top Africom General: Airstrikes Not Enough To Defeat Somalia's al-Shabaab

The Hill: Top US general on Africa: Airstrikes not enough to defeat al-Shabaab

You don't need lots of boots on the ground. You need specialists on the ground who can identify high concentrations of targets. Bombing the shit out of them does fuck all, you need effective strikes, something the US isn't known for.

You almost need to stop bombing to instill a false sense of security then BAM!

The US minaturized their bombs after 2003. They went from 500, 1,000 and 2,000 lb bombs to 100 pound bombs.

It is the opposite of what they did in WW2. the idea was to kill the target and minimize or eliminate the collateral.

All Somalia shows is that you cannot win without the queen.
