U.S. National Debt Surpasses $22 Trillion

AFP: US debt hits record under Trump, Republicans mum

Washington (AFP) - More massive than the US economy, the national debt hit a new record of $22 trillion under President Donald Trump but Republicans who traditionally rail against debt and deficits have remained mum.

The sum of borrowing to cover chronic deficits as well as growing interest payments, this mountain of debt already stood at $19.95 trillion when Trump entered the White House, reaching the equivalent of US GDP for the first time since World War II.

By comparison, France's debt, which also is about the same as its GDP, amounted to a little more than 2.3 trillion euros (about $2.6 trillion) in late September.

Republicans and Democrats both like to spend like crazy, albeit on different things. We need people from a different party that will reign in the spending.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury.

Q: During the Clinton administration was the federal budget balanced? Was the federal deficit erased?

9 trillion in 2009 when Obama took office. 20 trillion in 2017 when he left. The establishment RINO's are no better than Dems. A population of Dems and RINO's who rule DC feel no need to reign it in.

The GOP greatly expanded the deficit for TRUMP's tax plan!

Lori

Think about the father who is addicted to gambling, booze, drugs, women, who spends all the family income present and future i.e., debt, on those habits such that there is no food, certainly not nutritious food, no medicine, no dental work, no money for education, proper clothing, heat in the winter months and extend that to a country that is so addicted to war, and the enrichment of the already wealthy that it cannot provide proper healthcare, infrastructure, education for its people and you have the impact of 22 trillion bucks ++++.
