CNN: US Special Ops suicides triple in 2018, as military confronts the issue

Washington (CNN)Suicides among active duty military personnel assigned to US Special Operations Command tripled in 2018, in a disturbing and as yet unexplained spike, CNN has learned.

Special Operations units saw 22 deaths by suicide in 2018, almost triple the eight cases seen in 2017, according to figures provided to CNN by the command.

Firefighters suffer tremendous "psychological impact" because they cannot save every life at risk they run into while doing their job. A friend of mine a retired Fire Chief told me stuff about the pressure firefighters undergo from exposure to the trauma of others. He told me that the heroic acts portrayed by firefighters in movies where the fireman crawls under smoke and flame to rescue someone really doesn't happen that much in real life. The fact is they are trained to not go into a burning house to rescue someone if they cannot see a clear escape path for themselves and the occupant. One of the worst things that causes their trauma is hearing the terrorized screams of people as they die a terrible death.

I imagine it must be hellish for people who have a conscience and who are work to organize and/or execute activities that kill often innocent people even children, so called collateral damage, are killed. I can't imagine how such a person might feel during the 7th birthday party of their child, niece or nephew when they have trouble dealing with the results of their work actions.

Media petty silent on this. I give credit to cnn to report on this. Usually they don't care to report on if "toxic males" or "entitled whites" (racist phrases used thousands(!) of times on CNN to describe everyday white male Americans and divide the nation) kill themselves because their entitled jobs are so hard. Wow. Big change over at cnn.

hardly a big change at CNN since a simple search will show that cnn has reported a number of times and for a number of years on suicides in our military
