WNU Editor: This is a revision of earlier reports that 200 U.S. soldiers will remain in Syria .... U.S. Will Keep 200 Soldiers In Syria After Forces' Withdrawal. The withdrawal will be gradual, and at the end of this deployment 200 U.S. soldiers will stay in northeastern Syria and 200 U.S. soldiers will stay at the U.S. military base at Tanf that is near the border with Iraq and Jordan

I can see 200 staying doing what the NYT reported, mainly close air support for the Kurds. 200 in Al-Tanf is a surprise, not staying, as that makes sense, but the number. I'd expected 50 or so staying out of the 200. 200 staying tells me Al-Tanf is expected to be a hot spot and the US intends on fighting it out if needed to hold on to that spec of Syria.
