James Stavridis, Time: I Commanded the U.S. Military in South America. Deploying Soldiers to Venezuela Would Only Make Things Worse

When I was Commander of U.S. Southern Command, I was in charge of all military-to-military operations south of the United States — from the insurgency in Colombia to disaster relief in Central America to dealing with tons of drugs flowing across the Caribbean Sea. WNU Editor: I do not see U.S. soldiers being deployed to Venezuela to overthrow the Maduro regime. There is no political will in Washington for such an action, and even less so among the American public. The crisis in Venezuela will need to be resolved by the Venezuelans themselves, with help from its neighbours in the form of diplomacy and sanctions.

Putin, Xi and Maduro know US troops aren't going anywhere near a mission to Venezuela. The only ones who know that is happening are Trump's political adversaries such as the mainstream US media.

It is best to do nothing until Venezuela sells the rest of its gold, 103 tons, and a year after that goes by. At that time Venezuela will have nothing to power anything except the gas from Maduro's flatulence.

"a significant part of the country’s $US8 billion ($A11.2 billion) in foreign reserves held by the central bank."

Venezuela could go through $5 to $8 billion in gold in 2 quarters.

Maduro will be gone in 2 years.

Many liberals will cry at his demotion.
