CNN: Top US general refutes report that military could keep nearly 1,000 US troops in Syria

Gen. Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is refuting a Wall Street Journal report that the US military was developing plans to keep up to 1,000 troops in Syria, calling it "factually incorrect."

"There has been no change to the plan announced in February and we continue to implement the President's direction to draw down U.S. forces to a residual presence," Dunford said in a statement Sunday.

The Journal reported Sunday, citing US officials, that the US planned to continue working with Kurdish fighters in Syria who face threats from Turkey. The report said the plans came as talks between the US, Turkey, European allies and the Kurds have failed to establish a safe zone in Syria.

Media smear tactic part MMMCLIV.
Last week the smear was Trump wanted to charge allies full cost plus 50% tip to host US troops and that was reported over a few news cycles before being debunked.
This week is a flip flop to 1000 troops, only the Administration has reacted much quicker in debunking it. Still the 1000 troops will get reported far and wide by the media before the Chairman's refutation gets any air time.

Typical media drive by shooting we've seen for over 2 years with Trump. Lies are fine as long as they make Trump look bad.

the real source of the trouble is that trump keeps altering his positions...how many troops will stay on? oh, something called a "residual presence"!!whatever that might be. Media BS? CNN corrected WSJ article based on top general's statement...so "typical media" is just your nonsensical trumpian comment
