The U.S. Navy Is Supplying Baseball Bats To Its Ships Who Spend Time In The Arctic

Business Insider/Military.com: The Navy is using baseball bats to smash ice on aircraft carriers in the Arctic

* The Navy is planning on spending more time in the Arctic.
* But it hasn't done sustained operations up there in decades, and it's having to relearn tactics needed for that environment.
* One thing crews will have to deal with is ice buildup, but sailors have an old trick for that.

It's not often sailors get permission to take a baseball bat to a multimillion-dollar aircraft carrier.

But when the Navy's aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman sailed into the Arctic Circle for the first time in nearly three decades, its crew was ordered to do just that.

The Truman sailed into the Arctic Circle on Oct. 19 to conduct operations in the Norwegian Sea. After years of operations in warmer climates, leaders had to think carefully about the gear they'd need to survive operations in the frigid conditions.

Good question, I’m sure Lockheed Martin can produce a stealth synthetic baseball bat for a reasonable price...

Send the janitor out and it will cost tops $50 per bat, including mileage and his lunch at McDs.

Use a typical supplier to the Pentagon and it will cost at least as much as a toilet seat per previous experience. I think they paid over $600.

Bat costs from $11 to $500.

Someone does not get out much in North America.

Why is that?

Troll?

They are only knocking off ice little guy not trying for a home run. So yeah maybe $11 and janitor gets a nice lunch. Or, they pay over $600 for an $11 bat. Business as usual for the Pentagon, you know the guys who can't show what happened to trillion of dollars. Hell even you could do a better job, maybe, no forget that you most likely couldn't.

One thing for sure though, you are really easy to troll, mam.
