Bloomberg: Contractors Are Giving Away America’s Military Edge

The Pentagon needs to hold suppliers responsible for security lapses.

In a connected world, no government or company can perfectly protect all its data from hackers and rival states. Even so, it’s astonishing that, from January 2016 to February 2018, nearly 6 percent of U.S. military and aerospace contractors reported data breaches. And experts feel this is just the tip of the iceberg: The vast majority of security incidents are never uncovered. The Pentagon needs to tighten cybersecurity across its vast contracting operations and hold contractors responsible for breaches. If policy makers can contemplate jailing executives who lie about safeguarding personal data, then similarly harsh measures should be considered for those who put our national security at risk.

The question is the wrong question.. it's a good start, but wrong.

The contractors are not giving away America's secrets.

Unregulated capitalism is.

Capitalism, when it's not regulated, MANDATES of everyone in the system to MAXIMIZE UTILITY and MINIMIZE RISK of BANKRUPTCY (incl. losing advantageous market positions to competition).

Because of this, the liquidity of cash, and the abundance of DEMAND among foreign adversaries, the technology LEAKS towards adversaries BY DESIGN.

it is NOT the contractors fault. The system is faulty and China/Russia know this and play to our system's weaknesses.

It is the russian and Chinese systens that are weak.

How is it that you can steal designs and still have a hard time repicating performance.

The Russkis stole everything about the B29. They recversed engineered the whole thing. They didn't even weant to give our B29 pilots back. the pilots were worried that they would die at Russki hands. With allies like that, who needs enemies?

"It was reverse-engineered from the American Boeing B-29 Superfortress."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tupolev_Tu-4

So the Russkis stole this and they stole that (Atom bomb), which saved them lots of R& D money and should give them an advantage. However their economy almost groundopt a halt in the 1960s and did so in the 1980s.

Someone once told me they were no longer feared the Russkis when they could nopt centrally plan 200 pipe layers. Pipe layers are a tracked vehicle like a tank. We know that Russians can produce fine tanks. That is a no shit shelock observation.

So a pipe lay is a tracked vehicle, a tracked platform. A platform that you hang on a boom, a winch, and counterweights. All of this is stuff is super high tech stuff that the Russians coukld not figure out how manufacture. The counterweights are cast iron billets or slabs. Really high tech, bleeeding edge stuff. You just pore that iron into a mold. Even a 4 year old could do it.

So why couldn't the Russkis? IMHO they have 'pinnacle engineering'. They have a very narrow centrall directed effort(s) with lots of waste (or lots of 'friction' as an economist might put it). The US is beroadbased. Stealing tech from the US hurts and hurts badly and the US has to take measure, but its broad base gives it strength.

The US had bad tendencies like feudalism like all socieities. It is part of the human condition. The Democrast party relies on it.

Take aways.

1. Never underestiamte a Russkia. They are smart; it is just their system that sucks. Ditto the Chinese.

2. The U.S. while broad base has defects. Stuff like feudalism always creeps in. Marx had it wrong, but as much of the historical record was not laid out for him as it is laid out for the mordern reader (if they are well read). 50% of 'Das Capital' is crap (the latter half). Marx did a good summary of the ills, but he screwed up everything else. The dude could also party like it was 1999, when ever he got an inheritance.

thanks anon. I knew you would not let us down and did in fact slip in a stupid reference to the Democrats as though they are the sole cause that you are ranting about

Anonymous said...

No rant.

Democrats cozy up to the russians all the time pal.

Democrat Senator Ted Kennedy and another Democrat Senator did it in 1980/81.

Democrats still do it. Nothing has changed.

More names of Democrats cavorting with the enemy will come out.

Our cybersecurity problem is not new: what NSA is doing? It is supposed to help all our National security....

Not keeping notes is the direct result of the Democrat witchhunt.

If I had gone through the anal probe the Democrats have given Trump I would be paranoid too.

Lets review history. The Dems did not wasnt to keep us fully prepared duringn the Cold War. i rmember how many Democrat leaders and voters were surrender monkeys flinging ____ during the 1960s. For example there was the Pershing missile deployment.

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2004/oct/26/20041026-090703-2848r/

If the US upgraded anything or tried to keep pace with the Russians, the Democrats were against it. Time after time.

It was not unusual to hear stories opf liberals blocking gates to a base, blocking trains or in general making an ass out of themselves.

i read about it in th time, Newsweek, Us News and World Rpeport and in the news papers. i saw it on TV. After I enlisted i heard stories from the previous few years about liberals being liberals, spitting on soldiers, blocking access to miltary bases, etc. I caught the tail end of the blockages.

Kerry and otherDemcorat Leaders were in the middle of it. Bernie Sanders is still around and is rthe Democrat standard bearer.

So be honest. Do not lie about how noble Democrats are.
