Ukrainians began voting today in an election that has seen a comedian with no previous political experience the overwhelming favourite to defeat the incumbent president.

Opinion polls have made Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who plays a fictitious president in a TV sitcom series, on track to beat tycoon Petro Poroshenko, whose popularity has been dragged down by sliding living standards.
