At Pearl Harbor, Japanese attackers struck hard and fast to begin World War II. Their speed caught the Americans by surprise, and we lost many -- far too many -- men, ships and planes. Before we could win the war in the Pacific, we had to fight hard just to get back to where we had been before the attack.
But another tragedy came hours later, when another Japanese force targeted Clark Field in the Philippines. Despite the warning that the U.S. was under attack, planes were left in the open, ripe targets for attack. Again, they were destroyed on the ground without a fight.
The lessons: 1) Speed kills. 2) You must always be armed and ready to respond.

According to the latest available figures provided to DSJ today by the Air Combat Command, the “then year” FY 2017 dollars for costs per flight hour for USAF tactical aircraft* are as follows:
F-15C: $33,412/hour
F-15E: $25,141/hour
F-16: $20,423/hour
F-35: $50,246/hour

The costs have to come down further. For a few hours flying around we could get several teachers on decent yearly salaries able to provide for entire families! Like wtf..
Costs are pretty high judging from how much it costs to educate a child. There isa lot of overhead of useless staff above the level of principal.
The costs per hour figure in admin costs or overhead of ground crew their salaries etc.
May be we need more teachers for defending the country. Loosing a war is not cheap either. Comparing the cost of flying hours with the salary of a teacher is the same as comparing a fish and a bicycle.
I agree, Jac. But we just don't have the money to keep spending like this. we are losing the war - any war - if we go on like this. Our prorities are all twisted. We lose more people to drugs and poverty than all wars combined. And that's not even counting the hundreds of thousands of dead on the other side in unjustified wars (like the WMD fake war in Iraq)..military spending is good, but we're spending so much that it will bankrupt us and beforehand millions will kill themselves because of poverty. This is happening today. Now. And if china and Russia make it happen on a tenth of our budget than we're not only bad at keeping our people at home safe and from killing themselves but we're also incompetent in budgeting and costing or there is so much corruption going on ..or a combination of all
