Reuters: Canada sends delegation to China to press for release of citizens
OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada has sent a parliamentary delegation to China to press for the release of two Canadian citizens formally arrested for espionage last week, Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said on Tuesday.
Businessman Michael Spavor, who worked with North Korea, and former diplomat Michael Kovrig were picked up separately in December, shortly after Canada arrested Huawei Technologies Co Ltd Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou, who faces extradition to the United States.
Canada has condemned the detentions as “arbitrary”, while China has repeatedly demanded Meng be released. Freeland, in an interview with CBC radio, said she sought “repeatedly” to speak with her Chinese counterpart, but to no avail.

WNU Editor: This is a low level Canadian delegation. The Chinese are not going to take it seriously. So why send them in the first place? It is all for show. As to what do the Chinese want? They want Canada to immediately release Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou.

There are questions the Canadian Gov and media have failed to address.
What were the arrested Canadians doing in China? What is the nature of the organizations they were working for? Who are the members (e.g. who sits on the BOD)? What is the mandate?
What does Chinese law state regarding the activities of foreign NGOs in the country? Was any law violated? For instance, did the NGO register with the Chinese Gov.?
Past the above, I tend to agree with WNU. This is a low level delegation.
Trudeau needs to stop hiding under Freeland's (and his Mother's) skirt and address Chairman Xi directly to resolve this matter.
Agreed. Justin is a wimp running on his father coattails.
