A hiking trail where walkers can spot some of the world's most endangered species has opened inside the Korean Peninsula's heavily armed demilitarized zone (DMZ).
The Goseong-area route has opened on the eastern side of the DMZ in the first phase of what's known as the 'Peace Trail' project.
It is one of three trails set to open on the peninsula, with tours running twice a day, six days a week.

WNU Editor: Here is an easy prediction. It is going to be a success.

I think it is going to be a success as well. While there have been some setbacks of late, tremendous progress has been made in the reconciliation progress between North and South Korea. IMHO Trump deserves the lion's hare of the credit for this progress.
As I recall, Trump was said to have said to paraphrase that he wanted very badly to extend sanctions relief to NK at the last summit but politically he could not do so. At the time I did not put much stock in this statement due to the unreliable nature of the source.
Personally I think it would be premature to extend sanctions relief but I can't help but wonder if this really was and perhaps is Trump's position and are we making a mistake by not extending sanctions relief at this time. After all the North is going to expect receive something of value at some point.
If Trump were to conclude that now is the time to extend sanctions relief and were to push such a policy, I would be inclined to trust his judgment. His initial instincts on many things such as the attempted diplomacy with Russia are spot on. Unfortunately something sometimes goes wrong along the way and we get off track.
I do hope that history does not record that we failed here because we were to stubborn or stupid to extend sanctions relief at this key time in the negotiating process. The hiking tail, while a small step, is an excellent step (literally in this case) in the right direction IMHO.
latest missles from N. Korea now indicate Russian help
ok, thoughk, right troll man?
Actually I am quite aware of the latest missiles and the alleged possibility of Russian help. I had this in mind when I wrote "there have been some setbacks of late." With that said from where we were in the fall of 2017 to where we are now tremendous progress has been made. I believe the analysis to be sound. Furthermore, as I have explained elsewhere, as the only new variable to this equation and the fact that progress began to be made soon after he was able to begin implementing his policies Trump deserves the lions share of the credit for what has been achieved. I believe this analysis to be sound as well.
The opening of the hiking trail in the DMZ is also sound progress. Such confidence building measures have the potential to go a long way and it is being done by the parties themselves who ultimately are the ones who are going to need to resolve this. I'm with the editor on this. I think it is going to be a huge success which I think is a good thing.
Some reports have indicated that Kim was expecting sanctions relief at the last summit. Now, as I said, I think it is premature. One other report I saw indicated that Trump was ready to provide such relief but was prevented from doing so politically. Other analysis suggest that Kim is frustrated with the lack of progress even shaking up much of his inner circle with the missile tests being a direct result of all of this lack of willingness on our part to properly reciprocate the moves made by North Korea. I think it a reasonable to ask is it time to think about sanctions relief but, as I said at this pint, I think such a move on our part would be premature and I don't see South Korea or Japan pushing us to do this. So I think our allies are in agreement.
With that said, if Trump really did want to provide sanctions relief but was prevented from doing so and given his track record, I would be inclined to trust his judgment should he actively push for this. Trump's initial instincts have been spot on in a number of areas but unfortunately we often get sidetracked and off of the original course. It would be sad indeed if Trump was ready to provide sanctions relief that was warranted and was prevented from doing so by the political establishment. If that is correct, sanctions relief would have kept the process moving forward at a faster pace and perhaps this latest missile test could have been avoided. As far as Russian assistance, more evidence will need to be provided and given the anti-Russian hysteria that permeates the Us media of late I tend to be skeptical of such reports.
As for the trolling allegation, I stuck to the editor's post about the hiking trail and expressed my take on this as a good thing. I did not insult anyone. As such, based upon the definition my post would not qualify as trolling. As for you, you chose to throw out the slur. It is you who is the troll.
Russia and China helping N.Korea. They are enemies of our nation. You support Russia, non stop in every comment you post here. Show us otherwise
No I don't support Russia. This should be obvious based upon the body of my posts here. To try and "prove" this to you would be a bit like trying to prove to you the sky is blue. People who think in this manner as you seem to may not be open to evidence based reasoning but I will try.
There is certainly nothing in this thread that would indicate support of Russia. If it does turn out that Russia assisted North Korea this would be disappointing to say the least. Such things risk undermining all that has been accomplished. As such, we would not support Russia doing such a thing as I don't think our allies would either.
As further examples of not supporting Russia that I have discussed elsewhere on this blog, I fully support fracking. Increasing our oil supplies runs contrary to Russian what Russia has traditionally supported. Some analysis have suggested that Russia has funded anti-fracking initiatives. Additionally, I hope and pray the Venezulean people are successful in removing the Maduro government to be replaced by something better even if I might think the scheme itself and the way it is being implemented is hare-brained. With that said they have gone much farther and lasted much longer than I would have expected. This is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg of my lack of support for Russia. More examples could be cited. I would suggest reading my posts in their entirety instead of simply relying on what others tell you. In other words, find out for yourself.
If by support for Russia and China you mean engaging them where and when possible, recognizing they are at least equal powers to America and responding accordingly then perhaps you would be correct. I remember a time when engaging powerful countries and people, negotiating with them, and even talking to them was considered a good thing. I think the term that was used was "statesmanship.." Another term that while I don't necessarily like it but is nonetheless apt is "realpolitik." Now to suggest that we should engage countries like Russia in such a manner results in one having their patriotism questioned. It seems a sizeable portion of our political leaders have unfortunately gone mad.
Anyway back to the topic at hand. The hiking trails in the DMZ, while small progress are progress nonetheless and deserve our support and this is being done by the parties themselves without our involvement which is all the better. These are ultimately the parties that are going to need to solve this. Of course I do believe the actions of men like Trump have made this progress possible and without him we would not be where we are today which is a vast improvement over where we were.
