Jerusalem Post: 700 rockets, 4 dead Israelis: Is the Iron Dome getting worse?
The number of unintercepted rockets and Israeli fatalities sparked inquiry about the effectiveness of Iron Dome.
TEL AVIV (JTA) — After the weekend’s fighting between Hamas and the Israeli army, some Israelis have raised questions about the strength of their country’s missile defenses.
Over the course of the weekend, Hamas and Islamic Jihad launched nearly 700 rockets from Gaza at Israel, killing four people and injuring more than 200. According to Haaretz, of the 690 rockets launched from Gaza, Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted 240.
The number of unintercepted rockets and Israeli fatalities sparked inquiry about the effectiveness of Iron Dome, and whether Hamas and Islamic Jihad have found a way to thwart the system.
Hamas was quick to declare that it had achieved victory, overwhelming Israeli defenses with concentrated barrages of projectiles.

WNU Editor: The above Jerusalem Post says about 35% of rockets launched from Gaza were intercepted. This report is saying that 86% were intercepted .... Israel's Iron Dome missile-interception system stopped 86% of an enormous rocket barrage despite Hamas claims to have overwhelmed it (Business Insider).

Despite this weekend’s death toll, Iron Dome acquitted itself well, Times of Israel military correspondent Judah Ari Gross told JTA. The higher than usual level of civilian casualties can be attributed to a combination of bad luck, the intensity of the barrages and Hamas’ use of heavier rockets with larger payloads. Such projectiles can intensify the damage when they do get through.
“In one barrage, they fired 117 rockets toward Ashdod. One got through. Is that overwhelming the system?” he asked. “You can say, yes, it is — especially as that one killed an Israeli civilian — or no, that’s a 99.1 percent success rate.”
So, we're trying to criticize a system that can't handle an excess of missiles!? Any system can be beat!
700 rockets fired and only 4 dead? Give me a break.
What a mammoth expenditure of missiles for little in return.
The time is running out for missile barrages such as these. Lasers with enough kilowatts will soon be deployed making it much harder to saturate a missile defense system. Attacker has finite missiles, defender has unlimited shots on goal.

Approx 690 rockets fired, of those, around 240 (approx 35%) were deemed likely to hit civilian areas and required an interception. The rest hit open areas and were ignored.
Of those approx 240 rockets to be intercepted, approx 85% were taken out by Iron Dome.
That means around 35 rockets got through in total, some causing death.
They don't appear to be using GPS for guidance.
And these are against low level home made rockets. And iron come still struggles. Imagine some real tech produced rockets.
