Business Insider: China has a 3rd aircraft carrier in the works, and it could be a really big deal, Pentagon reveals

* China is building a third aircraft carrier, the country's second domestically produced carrier, and it could be a major improvement over its predecessors, the Pentagon said in its new report.
* China already has one carrier in service, and a second one is expected to join the fleet later this year.
* The Department of Defense expects the country's third carrier, which is under construction, to be larger and include a catapult launch system, meaning the ship could possibly carry a larger air wing than its predecessors and be much more effective in a conflict.

China is working on a third aircraft carrier, one expected to be much more technologically advanced and powerful than its predecessors, the Department of Defense said in its new report on China's growing military might.

China has one carrier — the Liaoning — in service with the People's Liberation Army Navy. Formerly a Soviet heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser, this vessel is the flagship of China's navy.

Nothing of that will matter. Experience is key.

Can you please change this old narrative? I've been hearing it for 20+ years about China. They will get their experience and training from fights against smaller nations - just like the US has done over the last 2 decades. There is a limit to experience and the preserving of that memory in a useful matter as technology progresses. There is no experience of a full on war between super powers unless it's WW2 against Nazi Germany. But that knowledge has been public for decades, studied and much of the strategies in it - including the island hop strategies in the Japanese war - are outdated due to advancements from missile technology and space warfare.
Relying on this "oh they don't know what they are doing" myth is becoming increasingly naive and dangerous. So please don't just repeat this myth. They are 1.5bn strong and ruthlessly coordinated under the party leadership - and have an impressive record of accomplishments-from ancient warfare strategies that influenced our own militaries -to high tech warfare where they outpace all European nations in innovation and spending and are about to overtake Russia and then the US in military capabilities. This sleepy nonsense blabbering must stop.

They have 1) the numbers on their side 2) their form of government has proven to be highly efficient 3) they are fiercly nationalistic and unified 4) they can be very very ruthless in achieving their goals. Or do you think the 1 million Muslims they put in concentration camps went cheerfully?

Think!
