Reuters: China bridles at rare meeting between Taiwan and U.S. security officials

TAIPEI (Reuters) - China responded angrily on Monday as Taiwan confirmed the first meeting in more than four decades between senior U.S. and Taiwanese security officials.

Taiwan’s national security chief David Lee met White House national security adviser John Bolton earlier this month, the island’s foreign affairs ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

The official Central News Agency said the meeting was the first since the island and the United States ended formal diplomatic ties in 1979.

I always thought the ending of ties in '79 was a sleazy deal. And who would have thought 4 decades would have passed and we have had no high level security meetings. 8 of those years are understandable considering the people in the White House not too long ago but that's still over 30 years it appears.
This DJT just gets stuff done that has needed doing for many years.

Nothing has changed that was not previously agreed to years ago...try not to make a thing of it...hardly the basis for any change from what has been in place well before the Trump presidency
