These Are The Soldiers Who’ll Respond If There Are Nuclear Strikes In The U.S.

Soldiers from 546th Area Support Medical Company and 181st Chemical Company (Hazard Response), Task Force Ops, Joint Task Force Civil Support bring a simulated patient through the mass casualty decontamination line during Exercise Guardian Response at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, Indiana, on May 4. (2nd Lt. Corey Maisch/Army)

Military Times: If there are nuclear strikes in the homeland, these are the soldiers who’ll respond

Two simultaneous nuclear explosions detonate, one in Detroit the other in Phoenix. Police, fire and local emergency workers scramble to respond.

What happens next?

Right now, a group of 3,500 soldiers, a mix of Army National Guard, active-duty soldiers under U.S. Army North and batches of reservists and other services are working on that very problem.

They’ve set up tents outside Detroit and are crowding 200 or more troops into command posts to coordinate how exactly you respond to thousands of dead, tens of thousands needing decontamination or rescue and perhaps a million or more citizens who must be moved out of the impact area.

The most important members of our military are those who are responsible for our nuclear deterrent. With that said Detroit is going to be pretty much irrelevant to a would be attacker. It is a failing city who poses no tnreat to them. As for Phoenix, the invaders will like the beauty of the city. As such, it'll be left intact. That is assuming the invaders allow the US to survive at all.

The primary targets of any invader will be Houston,TX and in general the southern portion of the US who would offer the strongest resistance to any invader

Flooding will take care of Houston

Anon (9:43AM),

This could be the case. If a nuclear detonation is done just off the coast, the ensuing tsunami would likely flood Houston and the surrounding area. There are reports that Russia has such weapons that are already positioned underwater off of our coasts. I believe the reports are fully accurate and, if anything, the reports actually understate the danger to America.

It is generally assumed we would have about 15 to 20 minutes to respond to a nuclear attack by Russia. If these reports are accurate, then our response time would be limited to under five minutes at best and perhaps we would have mere seconds to respond. This doesn't allow much margin for error on our part. Should war with Russia with materialize we may have no choice but to preemptively strike Russia with nuclear weapons before they can unleash these things. It may be our only hope for survival. So, as I stated, our most important military personnel are those who are responsible for our nuclear deterrent. No one else in the armed forces even comes close.
