Futurism: Raytheon Says Laser Weapon Will Blast Nuclear Missiles From Sky
Military technology company Raytheon is teasing plans to build a powerful laser weapon capable of shooting down hypersonic nuclear missiles.
A hypersonic missile is able to strike at several times the speed of sound. That’s too fast for conventional anti-missile technology, but on Monday Raytheon tweeted out an animated video showing a futuristic laser zapping hypersonic missiles out of the sky.

Update: Raytheon discloses future lasers that can stop hypersonic missiles (Defense Blog)
WNU Editor: The problem has always been the same. Producing enough power on the ground so that a laser that can knock out a target from a far distance. Then you need the means to track and target your laser to do so. As long as that is not possible, such a system is more science-fiction than reality.

It appears that these lasers are able to be in the right place at the right time. How often is that seen in battles and wars?
I believe more progress with tactical lasers has been made than recognized. I read an article a few years ago, during the Obama admin, with General Atomics demonstrating a compact 150kw laser weapon. Trump has come in and put the clamps on publicity from the Pentagon advanced research. The big problem has been the power pack shrinking to be tactically useful and not so much the output of the laser.
Once perfected perhaps they could cover the Earth from space. Then it will be a numbers game as majors try to take each other out first, nothing new there but again science fiction. A lot of stuff that at one time was science fiction has come to pass.
