Washington Post: Trump’s erratic policy moves put national security at risk, experts warn

Three policy turnarounds by President Trump this month have underscored his freewheeling governing style, an approach that some experts warn sends mixed messages and puts U.S. national security at risk.

Trump’s approach on three issues — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids, Mexican tariffs and Iran — is politically risky for the president, who is increasingly employing brinkmanship in an effort to achieve key policy goals.

On Sunday, Trump’s defenders, including Vice President Pence, argued that the president showed admirable caution in refusing to move forward with a military strike on Iran in light of the potential casualties.

“The president demonstrated the restraint that the American people, I know, admire and are grateful for,” Pence said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

He added: “Iran should not mistake restraint for a lack of resolve. All options remain on the table.”

But the president’s critics are trying to turn his often erratic approach into an issue for voters.

WNU Editor: These are the same "experts" who got America involved in numerous wars and conflicts, massive trade deficits, millions of manufacturing jobs lost because they went overseas, a broken border that is facing an unprecedented migration crisis, and a defense and security environment where many U.S. allies did not feel the need to allocate resources because they felt that the U.S, would cover for them. And now they are telling us that President Trump's method of pursuing his agenda has put national security at risk?!?!?!?

There are many policies that I disagree with President Trump .... arming Ukraine, missile buildups in eastern Europe, keeping U.S. forces in Syria, Yemen, the Afghan war, budget deficits, his lack of focus to nominate quality officials to run the government, etc. etc. etc., but his style is not one of them. Critics say he is erratic .... I say that he purposely projects unpredictability, and behind this behaviour there is always a deep strategic purpose behind it. This is how he won the Republican primaries. The U.S. election. Overcome a special console probe. Numerous personal attacks. And more importantly .... having his agenda move forward and court picks accepted. And I know that he will continue to succeed because his opponents and critics fail to take the time and effort to understand the man, his mannerisms, philosophy, views, and personal history. But I will leave the best to the last in describing President Trump with a quote from Don Corleone in The Godfather ....

.... There is no greater natural advantage in life than having a friend underestimate your virtues and an enemy overestimate your faults.

Wnu,agreed. Why on earth would anyone listen to those guys?
The US - just twenty years ago - was the only super power on earth and it was those 'experts' that managed to almost bring it down. And it was Trump - almost single handedly - who reasserted the US dominance.
Under him GDP outgrew China by so much that they had to give up many of their own plans and are now a laughing stock.
Trump has many many flaws but he understand strategy and opportunity almost like none other. History will be very kind to him

Yeah, either Trump really is a secret genius or America is a nation of dumbed-down TV obsessed OAF CHUDS. I'll go with the latter.

"his lack of focus to nominate quality officials to run the government,"

I blame RINOS and Dems for that. They do not want to vote on them. It is called obstruction. We saw what lengths the obstruction would go to with the Brett Kavanaugh hearings.

You must live such a sad life.

It's a combination of many things. Keep in mind that usually the establishment elects someone among their own, with lists of employees/staff ready to go.

Two recent presidents come to mind:

Trump - who has many business connections but none want the heat that a "Russia hoax" investigation brings with it, and therefore has to fall back on 2nd/3rd level choices; and George W Bush- who got elected through a very narrow margin and was very unprepared - instead Cheney decided most staff questions and subsequently became the most powerful vice president.

It's a difficult task - the people who normally run the show in Washington are deeply opposed to Trump and are the swamp themselves. And they attack anyone he suggests - and arguably sometimes they are right.

But if you remember what Democrats tried to do to Kavanaugh, his Supreme Court pick, then you can see how ugly it gets. .the things they were willing to do and his family. It's a wicked world and no one is his right mind would want to work for Trump after seeing what they did to an accomplished family man. That is the real outrage. .how they bind his hands and deny him good staff.

It sickens

Contradicting Trump, Top Putin Adviser Says U.S. Drone Downed in Iranian Airspace

This comment, "Contradicting Trump...", related to "Is President Trump Putting National Security At Risk?" how?

The only way I see it being related is that the poster wants to denigrate Trump.

It is possible that the drone was purposefully flown in to Iranian airspace to look at movement of Iranian Navy vessels. It is equally possible that It was right on the line and that the wreckage fell into Iranian waters or close.

You would have to talk to the drone operator or someone in their chain of command.

The drone's flight path and mission were probably no different than similar sorties under GWB, Obama or Dwight Eisenhower. That is Trump did not direct the military to do anything other than what other presidents have done. So how does that make Trump worse?

As the Iranians have been attacking tankers, it may have been that they felt it was worth the risk to go in 1 or 10 miles and get a better look at things.

It is hard to say what happened.

All I know is the Ayatollahs and their theocracy has got to go and that Democrats could care less, if they stay or go until they are large and in charge again.

If Trump had suffered a mild heart attack, slipped on a banana peel and banged his head losing consciousness for a few moments, suffered any manner of distraction and missed that brief window of opportunity to stop the attack on Iran, America may have committed yet another war crime.

How about ALL middle eastern states who claim they have a religious mandate to rule have to go. Why are we picking and choosing.

"How about ALL middle eastern states ..."

Order of operations can be important.

During WW2 we picked an chose who we were going to move against 1st. The bulk of the resources went to Europe. It was prioritized.

Can we do both at once? Never seen anyone make a case for it. What I have seen is people in love with the Muslim Brotherhood, CAIR and the Saudi mosque building program. If you cannot stand up to Saudi soft power, you have no business talking about overthrowing Saudi Arabia. Period.

""The process of settlement is a "Civilization-Jihadist Process" with all the word means. The Ikhwan [meaning Muslim Brotherhood] must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and "sabotaging" its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all other religions."
"Without this level of understanding, we are not up to this challenge and have not prepared ourselves for Jihad yet. It is a Muslim's destiny to perform Jihad and work wherever he is and wherever he lands until the final hour comes, and there is no escape from that destiny except for those who chose to slack.""
