President Trump Warns Iran That They Face Obliteration If There Is War

Politico: Trump warns Iran of ’obliteration like you’ve never seen before’

President Donald Trump warned the United States may launch a devastating military attack on Iran unless it comes to the negotiating table and drops its bid to develop nuclear weapons.

“I'm not looking for war and if there is, it'll be obliteration like you've never seen before. But I'm not looking to do that. But you can't have a nuclear weapon. You want to talk? Good. Otherwise you can have a bad economy for the next three years,” Trump said during an interview with NBC’s “Meet The Press“ airing Sunday.

The president said he’d be willing to sit down with Iranian officials without any pre-conditions.

The comments, made during an interview taped Friday, came the same day Trump confirmed on Twitter that he called off a retaliatory strike on Iran at the last minute Thursday night. He said he decided that the potential cost of human lives was “not proportionate to shooting down an unmanned drone.”

Obama would have totally taken care of it. Oh no wait, he didn't. He kicked the can down the road, made a shitty deal that gave thesee terrorists their money in exchange for a laughable oversight deal which we know didn't work. But yeah when it's inconvenient, the Israelis are lying and the deal was brilliant. Got it.

Just like Obama took care of China (failed pivot to Asia, and nothing on trade correction), and North Korea, and Russia and Syria (remember the red line debacle? Not only did the US lose face but hundreds of thousands civilians were killed afterwards but yeah whatever..the press loved him so u probably never even heard of it)...or remember operation Fast and Furious his admin was involved in? Shipping US machine guns to Mexican cartels who then used those to kill US border patrol agents ..buy yeah whatever if cnn doesn't report on it it never happened, right? Or remember how under him the IRS was weaponized to target republicans? Yup..good times. .or hey remember when during his administration the FBI and DOJ were weaponized to spy on a presidential campaign? Ohhhh boy do I miss him. Such a good president and his wife's love for America was beautiful too.. remember how she said she was never proud of America until they got into the white house? Takes a special kind of self entitlement to only see good if it's coming to you

Trump is mirroring Iran's bombastic threats like the imbecile he is. Pity is that the US has the ability to annihilate the entire country and history shows they would do that in a heartbeat, killing millions of innocents in the process and not just in Iran, given some insane motivation. There are those in America, and on this board, that would cheer him on even as the entire world is turning to dust.

Anon, I agree with your dislike of Obama, he was political hack and certainly failed his electorate that came out in droves for him. He did that because he was a servant of the wealthy, and so is Trump, so don't think anything Trump does is for you or your fellow Americans, it isn't and you and they are paying for the BS he is perpetrating.

In fact, any number of pundits who know foreign affairs now tell us that the Obama deal with 5 allies had kept Iran in check and with Trump dumping this agreement, Iran had the green light to go ahead. To try to slow Iran down, Trump piled on more and more sanctions which other nations did not bother with. To blame O. is plain silly. The mess we seem now to have has to be with the current leader. Trump is at this point being laughed at, according to some things I have seen via Iran as talking big and then doing nothing
Bob: all political figures in American politics serve the super wealthy interests. In part, because elections require tons of money for tv etc and the electioneering takes years! just look at what is going on NOW for two years from now

note to comment folks: Obama has been out of office for some two years. deal with the here and now. Oh, yes, that might mean being somewhat critical of Trump! ok. back to Obama...he caused my right rear tire to go flat today

Obama has been out of office for 2 years. The problems he created will last decades.

Obama had deal with 5 nations..not the best deal. but no problem till Trump pulled out of that deal...and yet you blame Obama. How dumb can you get to blame O. when Trump is the leader and troubles began after Trump broke the deal.

I used to like the views of this blog, before it became so heavily biased. Bias was always there, but its so readily evident now.

Don't get me wrong - I like Trump. But I can also like him, and be very critical of the things he does and say.

WNU Editor? Trump is a saint to him, can do no wrong, and if this was a democratic president saying the things Trump was saying? You can bet he'd have an opinion to share.

Such a shame.

Maybe some people cannot face reality.

They need their cheap Hezbollah/Iranian drugs.

A bad nuke deal is sweetened with continued cheap access to Hezbollah drugs.

I am aware of the Obama/Hez drug thing. Fact: Obama got the deal. Trump broke it. Hez. still exists and Trump now has them and Iran working on nukes

I agree somewhat
Trump still needs to convince on a human level, you're absolutely right about that. But. .he doesn't seem to be eager for war, that's at least one really good thing

Okay fred so what was good and bad about the deal? No links your opinon.

Obama's deal

- Nuclear site we cannot inspect. Ergo, no teal verification.

- Obama cannot get the low hanging fruit. Transnational criminal syndicates that operate in America and murder thousands upon thousands of Americans yearly.

Not only did Obama give them the money in escrow, but he allows them to make windfall profits on illicit drug trade in America.

Of course Obama had Janet Napolitano declare the border wall infeasible. He would not want to interrupt or decrease the flow of Hezbollah drugs across the southern border.

Anon,
No one at this blog has told anyone to either go or stay. Whether you stay or go is entirely up to you, but the content is not.

Is this what will make America great? I can't tell if we're great yet. Has Mexico's check for the wall cleared?

This isn't going to be some grand WWIII battle, Iran is just going to lose it's toys at the hands of a stronger more dominant opponent. I think the US has pretty good practice penetrating air defense systems, and eliminating any threats to it's air force...something more along the lines of Desert Storm minus the ground invasion. Yeah they have a long coastline, but once the air defenses come down you're not going to want to be hanging around anything resembling a military position.

Thank God you guys are not in leadership positions. This petty back and forth is boring; some good points but always bent on Obama or Trump being right. The right answer is the right answer regardless of political party. And I will say that Iran should not get a Nuke; they would use it against the world as a negotiating point to gain leverage over others; that is what they do.

I think it's fair game to talk about leaders. The points above were factually correct and not ad hominem in nature.

I was asked about the deal
1. the deal had shortcomings, ie, no all places open to inspection
2. the deal would put the onus upon Iran if they began to develop nukes and thus have broken the arrangement...that would have given us the moral upper hand for any and all things we might have done
3. the deal united us with our allies and shown Iran that we were all in agreement on the arrangement and not simply this or that nation
4. with that arrangement in place Iran till recently, after arrangement broken, kept to its bargain. Since they have openly announced they would proceed with that which we had wanted stopped.
In sum: we had possibly but not certainly something to gain. Now we have nothing

It took around 5 years for sanctions to have the desired effect in Ssouth Africa.

It will take 2 to 5 for them to work with Iran. Maybe 18 months form now the Ayatollahs will fall. They have high unemployment, a baby bust due to poverty and STDs, severe water shortages, and severe cash flow problems (e.g. They laid off many Hezbollah). The Ayatollahs are history unless RINOs and Dirty Dems snatch defeat from the jaws of Victory.

Fred reads the NYT like it was a holy book. Thus his utter benightedness. It is not his fault. He grew up in the NE corridor. Poor blighter never had a chance.

"“It was a shock on arriving at the New York Times in 2004, as the paper’s movie editor, to realize that its editorial dynamic was essentially the reverse [of that at the LA Times]. By and large, talented reporters scrambled to match stories with what internally was often called “the narrative.” We were occasionally asked to map a narrative for our various beats a year in advance, square the plan with editors, then generate stories that fit the pre-designated line." - Michael Cieply November 2016

Wow you're kidding. Imagine my shock. Another jewish columnist who demands that Trump start this war with Iran already. I won't say anything about that pattern of late though, lest the boomers start screaming that I'm racist for noticing things about our greatest ally.

--we do know that those entrusted with inspections gave Iran an ok till such time as that arrangement was broken...There is no need now since no arrangement exists and so Iran can do what they want...

Michael Cieply "...Except he stayed on till not long ago..."

It is called needing an income. Saying such things about a venerated leftwing newspaper, which is regarded with awe by liberals, is something that could get a person blackballed and out of a job in the business.

Both the LA Times and NY Times are liberal papers. Saying that the NYT differs from the liberal LA Times does not infer or prove that the NYT is not liberal. It would be like the saying the Soviet Union was not communist because it differed from communist China under Mao.

Cieply is a whistle blower. The apologist for the NYT implied because a person needed a job that he agreed with the NYT narrative management. I think the the apologist really needs that gin and tonic to down the soma he is taking. After all, you earned it. You tricked all those people into paying tuition for illogical pablum that you produced over the years. That takes chutzpah and a certain amount of cunning, not intelligence mind you but cunning.

As a complete aside, that Anne Frank story from your blog has me rolling over here. The parts that she wrote about her vagina are exclusively found in the sections of her diary that were written with a ballpoint pen which was invented years after she died. Her creep father wrote that and admitted it in 2015. You don't have to go further than wikipedia to find that out, but of course the narcissism of the article's author was able to break past such restrictions in the pursuit of self aggrandizement.

Been out shopping all day but I really enjoyed the back and forth.

Bearing in mind the Editor's long time background in ambassadorial support work in China and Russia and his comment some time ago about this site getting 10,000 hits (although I can't remember over how much time that covered) you might be right thinking that there are many people at various levels who monitor this site, perhaps advisors to Si, Trump and Putin even. If true, and I believe it is, it is likely that the true identities of each and every poster is known, for whatever reason. The intelectual value of their posts assessed as well and indications of subversive tendencies noted. Very few of the people accessing this site post perhaps for this reason.

I believe this because, and I state this with absolute modesty, in the past month I have made two comments, and only on this site, that within days were reflected in the actions of Trump and China. Check the posts and the timing if you wish, and/or dismiss it if you like.

The first post dealt with Trump losing an opportunity to make himself and America look good, while resolving a key issue in the US farm region by purchasing the Soy Bean crop and sending it out as aid. Within days of my post he made a comment about maybe doing something like that, although while he didn't refer to the Soy Beans in particular it was something he never mentioned before.

The second was predicting that China would threaten to stop the Rare Earth Element business between them and the US. On this site my comment got garbage comments like the US has REE too. While that may be true the US is unable to process the ore and sends it to China for processing. Again in a matter of days China bought it up.

From a timing perspective both of those issues arose following my posts. Be careful what you say and what image you cast in your posts.

Sorry to say, the middle to last of it sounded like delusions of grandeur, Bob.
We each have interest in the matters of international relations. And we each have our own bias , knowledge and predilections. Often this knowledge, common sense and one’s political leanings may offer accurate insight on the topics posed here.
But, it is not likely than many of us have special instincts or prescient information that world leaders and their minions will hawk from us.
Likely it is our informed hunch and nothing more.
Your initial comment was spot on in my estimation!
