China’s 5G leadership means US eavesdropping will be blocked, spies unemployed
The US intelligence community’s alarm at Chinese leadership in 5G mobile broadband has less to do with a threat of Chinese eavesdropping than with the likelihood that electronic eavesdropping will become next to impossible, thanks to quantum cryptography. I have had a number of conversations on the topic with US as well as Chinese sources, but this conclusion appears obvious from public sources.

Only if we let it.
They do not have stable quantum computers or they would already have enslaved the rest of the world with their massive tech advantage. It's not just encryption that this technology unlocks, it's quantum computing in general. The most advanced researchers in the west are working on this as well, but cannot maintain stability for any longer than a few minutes. It's preposterous to say that ANYONE could roll out a large scale application of the tech. So no, China isn't going to build a quantum phone network unless they plan to wait another decade to build it (they won't). This is total scaremongering.
