Forbes: China Threatens Sanctions Over U.S. Sale of Fighter Jets To Taiwan

Topline: A new front in the trade war between the United States and China has opened after the Trump administration approved the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Taiwan. China warned it would impose sanctions on U.S firms like Lockheed Martin if the deal went ahead.

* China urged the U.S. to cancel the sale of 66 F-16 fighter jets to Taiwan “at once” and to cut its military ties with the self-governing island.
* “China will take all necessary measures to safeguard our interests including imposing sanctions on the U.S. companies participating in this arms sale to Taiwan,” said Geng Shuang, China’s foreign ministry spokesman. He added that the sale “is a serious interference in our internal affairs and undermines our sovereignty and security interests.”
