Iranian Oil Tanker Released By Gibraltar Now Heading To Turkey


Daily Mail: Iranian tanker that was seized by Britain and then released by Gibraltar to the fury of the US sets sails for Turkey

* Adrian Darya 1, which was called Grace 1, updated destination to Mersin, Turkey
* But mariners can put in any destination - so Turkey may not be its true target
* The supertanker was released on Sunday night after a tense five-week standoff
* Vessel had destination as Kalamata, Greece, though port couldn't offload tanker
* US state department then pressured Greece not to aid the vessel, which it didn't

An Iranian-flagged oil tanker pursued by the US amid growing tensions between Tehran and Washington has changed its listed destination to a port in Turkey after Greece said it would not risk its relations with America by aiding the vessel.

The crew of the Adrian Darya 1, formerly known as the Grace 1, updated its listed destination in its Automatic Identification System (AIS) to Mersin, Turkey, a port city in the country's south and home to an oil terminal.

But mariners can input any destination into the AIS, so Turkey may not be its true port of call.
