Sputnik: US Marines Strap Armored Vehicle to Assault Ship’s Flight Deck in Hormuz Strait (Photo)

When the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer transited the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week, it had a light armored vehicle strapped to its flight deck. The novel innovation reflects the US Marine Corps’ lack of preparation to counter emerging surface threats.

The 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) decided to strap one of its LAV-25 armored fighting vehicles to the flight deck of the USS Boxer earlier this week as the ship was preparing to enter the narrow Strait of Hormuz.

Evidence came in the form of a US Navy photo of AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters lifting off from the Boxer’s flight deck, with the armored vehicle sitting in the background of the image.

WNU Editor:Strapping an armored vehicle on an assault ship's flight deck tells me that the Navy is not confident that their defensive systems will be able to stop an attack on the surface.

Again your conclusions are wrong. ..I wonder..do you sometimes pause and think or is it so easy to give into the Sputnik propaganda of unprepared marines?

Please. .spare me and think

1. If Russians would do it cnn would be "oh look those ingenuous Russians just simply strapped something on deck haha they are so smart and probably saved money! !PS trump is Satan

2. It is about numbers. Don't you know anything about saturation fire? If your are in a strait no matter who you are - God himself I don't care - you make an easy target. An easy target. Why do I need to explain this to you if you run this website? And as you're an easy target numerous (plural! ) projectiles/kinetics will come your way. And as this is the case and you want to live, no matter what your defense system is, you are -smart- if you do whatever you can to harden it

So ffs don't please don't ever do this again it's beyond the dignity of your readers to post sputnik

They put them on there, when they go thru tight spots, such as hormuz and Suez canal. Not because there are defiencies but because it gives them more fire power to fend off small units.

Hope there's one starboard as well. Nothing better to deter a boat swarm then an armored 30mm with laser targeting.

/They should position covered 30 caliber Gatling gun points on all four corners.
