Syria Launches Air Strikes On A Turkish Convoy In Rebel Controlled Idlib Province

Zero Hedge: Turkey-Syria War On The Horizon: Airstrikes Target Invading Turkish Army Convoy

Turkey and Syria could be headed for war as their armies increasingly clash on front lines in southern Idlib, also amid a heavy aerial bombardment by Syrian and Russian jets of al-Qaeda held Khan Sheikhoun.

On Monday a Turkish convoy came under attack by Syrian airstrikes while traversing a highway headed toward Khan Sheikhoun. Damascus has accused Turkey of seeking to aid terrorists in the besieged town, which had been site of prior chemical attack claims issued by anti-Assad fighters, and fired "warning shots" on the approaching armored convoy, killing and injuring some among the pro-Turkish force.

WNU Editor: The Syrian war has been absent from the news headlines in the past few months. That may change in view of this escalation by all sides in the conflict.

Turkey is openly and shamelessly supporting Al Nustra Islamists, as have the US and some of its allies. I do not know what this represents under the eyes of the international community.

I hope the Turks got their wings clipped.

These observation posts that Turkey has in Syria have very specific treaty-mandated purposes and none of them allow the endless funneling of war materiel to HTS. And that's exactly what they've been using them for since the agreement was signed. It's not surprising when you consider that the number of Turkish-made ATGM strikes made by the rebels over the past 3.5 months has skyrocketed. Since fighting resumed in April the rebels have fired a total of 116 ATGMs:
---
late April: 2
May: 45
June: 31
July: 20
August: 18
---
ATGM shots split by type:
9K111 Fagot (AT-4 Spigot)5
9M113 Konkurs (AT-5 Spandrel)20
9K115 Metis (AT-7 Saxhorn)2
9M133 Kornet (AT-14 Spriggan)75
BGM-71 TOW13
Unknown ATGM1
---

As you can see there is a very significant rise in launches of 9M133 Kornet (AT-14 Spriggan), which have all been launched by rebel groups backed by Turkey. The Syrians simply cannot allow these resupply convoys to continue.
