Popular Mechanics: The U.S. Navy Wants To Build the World's Largest Robot Warship
The Large Unmanned Surface Vehicle will augment manned warships, providing extra sensors or firepower.
The U.S. Navy is calling on industry to present ideas for its Large Unmanned Surface Vehicle (LUSV) ship. The Navy wants ten LUSV ships in five years. The ships would function as scouts for the main battle fleet, carrying sophisticated radar and sonars or floating magazines packing extra anti-air and cruise missiles.
Above all, the ships will do what proponents call the “3D work”: dull, dirty, and dangerous work.

Next year china will release same ship, same design, 1 meter longer ;)
The drive to keep ahead of the Jones is difficult when both neighbors are named Jones, or, in this case the Russian, or, Chinese equivalent.
I hope the require stealth like the Zumwalt class built in to the structure. These drones could do many additional tasks with some stealth including troop movements, wolf pack tactics with subs, close in land attack and obviously steam well in front of destroyers or carriers and not give them away.
