Al Jazeera: US-Taliban talks end without deal, both sides to consult
Two sides have been negotiating in Doha for agreement that would see the US withdraw its troops from Afghanistan.
The latest round of talks between the Taliban and the United States has ended without any signs of reaching a peace deal for Afghanistan, as both sides said they would consult their leaderships on the next steps.
The eighth round of talks, which began in Qatar's capital on August 3 and focused on technical details, ended in the early hours of Monday.
Neither side provided details of the outcome of the discussions in Doha, but US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad called them "productive" and Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid described them as "long and useful".

What so irritates me about this situation is the refusal of the US to stop bankrolling stupid and crooked. As in the tactic that was a failure in Vietnam called sitting duck. How many times does one have to experience failure before the light bulb goes on?
It's just been the last month that the "ghost soldiers" have suddenly been removed from the payrolls of the crookeds running the show. I can see the obama admin doing little but talk about this situation. That's 8 years of stupid and now the situation has supposedly changed. Supposedly. The Afghans special forces appear to be competent. They maneuver. That only took nearly the entire length of time we've been there. I mean is it the air in Washington? Too many black suit white shirt combos? If your new car is a dud you take care of the problem and immediately. Is there a problem in doing this elementary step towards military competence. I know they're only Afghans but they're humans last time I looked.
I just do not for the life of me understand this tolerance for corruption and incompetence. The Taliban are Afghans, mostly. They get it.
Good for Trump. I'll bet the salaries of the higher ups now total over a million dollars, EACH, if they've been part of the crowd "managing" this fiasco all these years. Does any taxpayer reading this feel they've gotten their money's worth?
WTF!
