Young Americans Do Not Share The Same Values As Their Parents And Grandparents

Michael Snyder, End Of The American Dream: Americans Under The Age Of 39 Have Completely Different Values Than The Generations That Came Before Them

America’s values are shifting at a pace that is unlike anything that we have ever seen before. During the 2020 election season, we are going to hear a lot about “the generation gap”, and the numbers clearly tell us that this gap is very, very real. And as older generations of Americans slowly die off, it appears inevitable that the values that are dominant among younger generations of Americans are going to become the values of the country as a whole. Essentially, “American values” are going to mean something completely different from what they meant to previous generations, and that should absolutely terrify all of us.

WNU Editor: This cultural shift is not only an American affair. The shift is complete in Europe. And Asia is a culturally different place today from what I saw and experienced when I lived and worked there in the 1980s. The only place that I know of where the shift is in the opposite direction is Russia, where church, family, traditional values, etc. are more important for those under 39 than for those who are older.

Sad to say, but advertising and more importantly psychology is prominent, the culture is one where their consumer habits is monitored and they are socially engineered to act, think and value different things. We are dissociating ourselves with one another in such a way that morally wrong conduct of the past is widely acceptable. As we push the boundaries of possibilities we are becoming more cruel and more determined then ever that we know better then the entire history of humanity.

Anon @1054..like ever before in history? Wow what a statement. Obviously nonsense and easy to disprove unless you pick non-quantifiable metrics ..so murder is down. .war is down. People are healthier and live longer..these are facts. .BUT

I guess you mean our collective sense of purpose and wellbeing is down because we know more. We know how eggs are produced. Sick! We know how wars are fought/via drones more and more. Sick! And there are many other reasons for everyone, I'm sure. But I think this is temporary. Humans are going through another age of enlightenment..but it's the beginning and it's repulsive to learn about our world. But that is the first step. The next generation will already have artificial food in place and in a few generations hopefully we see war just like a robot fighting game after which you give up once the other side "killed" your robots. But that in itself is a bit sick, isn't it? ;)
And then in a few generations if survive and fight a common cause (asteroid or hostile space aliens or super volcano..I don't care what it is in the end, but if we survive long enough it'll come and hopefully dissolve national borders. Because no one wants to fight a Chinese, American or Russian. I would rather sit down and enjoy a pizza with them. Or peking duck ;) and I am sure 99.9% of humans want the same. But until we get rid of party systems and media that distort the truth (including our own), it will remain messy

War is down?

How do you define war?

Do you have a definition?

What do you know of war?

Here is an easy question. How many world wars have there been?

Is murder down? I have stats to show otherwise.

There is some growing evidence that Generation Z, just now coming on line, is trending far more conservative than the current middle-agers.

I know this; where I live I feel if I needed assistance and yelled out for same the people I would assume to NOT hesitate to come running and who would show up with something more than a selfifest mindset would be the Marines or retired versions of same from the nearby base.

I won't live long enough to witness the longevity of the nation's changing mindset but I suspect when they begin to pay the bills there will be some modifications. Other than that I am agreed. That certainly was the outcome of the hippie movement of my day.
