Are Some Drone Pilots Suffering From 'Sniper Syndrome'?

ABC News Online: Modern soldiers can kill a target on computer, then head home for dinner — and it's giving them 'moral injury'

The recent bombing of Saudi oil facilities by unmanned aerial vehicles has raised a number of questions about drones.

But one area that has seen considerable interest already is the problem of "moral injury" in drone pilots.

Instead of being shielded from the psychological and emotional impacts of warfare, drone pilots instead face the risk of "moral injury".

When drones were first being used for military operations, there was a sense that these technologies would protect pilots from the harms of warfare.

As the vehicles could be remotely piloted, those pilots were no longer at risk of being shot down.

I suffer from "reading"/scrolling past that idiot Fred's comments. Can you believe that guy was a teacher? OF COURSE I can believe it. Look at the mess of our society. Teachers like him brought us these idiots. Now he doubles down with his virtue signaling for all the mess he caused. So typical..you're fooling no one, Mr. Lapides. Just admit to what you've done and we can all move on

Air Force needs to use similar screening for drone pilots that they use for fighter pilots. Never heard of fighter pilots getting "moral injury" from working in an air conditioned trailer and getting to go home at night.
