CNN: Exclusive: US extracted top spy from inside Russia in 2017
Washington (CNN)In a previously undisclosed secret mission in 2017, the United States successfully extracted from Russia one of its highest-level covert sources inside the Russian government, multiple Trump administration officials with direct knowledge told CNN.
A person directly involved in the discussions said that the removal of the Russian was driven, in part, by concerns that President Donald Trump and his administration repeatedly mishandled classified intelligence and could contribute to exposing the covert source as a spy.
The decision to carry out the extraction occurred soon after a May 2017 meeting in the Oval Office in which Trump discussed highly classified intelligence with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and then-Russian Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak. The intelligence, concerning ISIS in Syria, had been provided by Israel.

Update: Trump administration extracted US spy from inside Russia government in 2017, report says (The Independent)
WNU Editor: CNN is inferring that because of President Trump this spy was extracted, but admits later on in the report that the intelligence President Trump had declassified was not directly related to the spy in the Russian government. CNN is also saying that multiple sources are acknowledging that a U.S. spy was extracted from Russia, but only one source is saying that it was due to President Trump. There are to many inconsistencies in this report, but I predict that by the end of the day it will be widely spread by the main stream media.

You are right. It is now cited in numerous places. However, it is NOT refuted by any source though denied of course by the administration.
though it appears at first and only by CNN, it is cited as exclusive, and therefore but that place would be the original source for the piece.
oh yeah for sure, but it is also understandable..
I like Trump's policies, but I do not like his messaging, nor the way how he interacts with everyone. I believe he has a plan and is quite intelligent, so I believe he might even go so far as to suggest he "I might do something for you, Vladimir - just to show you I want to build trust between us so we can move our nations forward, it will be a big honor and perhaps it will help you in other ways, make look you good perhaps" .. without really doing anything illegal - all he did was invite Putin and his comrade into the White House. I don't think there is anything wrong with it.
I like to trash bposter, but only for fun - I have deep respect for the Russian people and find it absurd(!) that we in a time of potential conflict with China - at least on economic, but also human rights level, and cultural conflict, tolerance of religion etc etc - with all that going on and we still want to act as if Russians are enemies? That is INSANE. We all deal with Russians every day and share so much of culture (being European myself I find the Russian culture is not too far from the European culture.. actually there is a huge overlap.. we listen to much of the same music, learn about the same cultural and religious and ethical and moral principles, heck we have statues of Russian mathematicians and philosophers - it is literally just Putin and his, well not regime, but certainly slightly mafioso, where reporters are being killed left and right, political prisoners are being held, and the police is part of it. Now, you can say the same thing is perhaps true in the US - and that's what we Europeans hate about the US too.. but culturally, economically, scientifically, from a moral, religious and ethical basis, we share A LOT! So when Trump does something to bring our nations closer together, it is absolutely smart but also the right thing to do. Can we please stop this stereotype of a Russian Cold War spy and the McCarthyism? Of course Russians spy. So do the Chinese. A LOT. And we have to fight them to stop the spying. I agree with that fully.
BUT a smarter way than increasing a cold war mentality would be to be tough, but fair and not insulting. That's why Putin gets invited into the White house first. Xi, who Trump "respects" and "thinks he is a great man", is also treated with respect. Sure, sanctions, hard measures, but respect is what everyone wants and Putin did not get any respect from Obama (NOR did Obama get from Putin - those two guys didn't get along at all! Putin called him "a child" on that hot mic incident, remember?).. so anyways.. I rather have bending the rules of etiquette (inviting Putin - a world leader - into the white house is such a monstrous thing, CNN told us the next day he is a foreign agent and traitor. Think of what they do, it is insane. And then they call it ANALysis and have it presented by the Lemon, who got caught actually sexually advancing/molesting someone.
So you either go with his narrative, the same guy who called all white people terrorists ("the greatest terror threat to the USA"), or you follow the other narrative in which no race card is played, and where everyone is respected, even Putin, even Xi, yes, if it helps to avoid war, even Kim Yong Un and the Iranian dude. The people in all these countries are suffering so much and are less and less free because our elite thought "yeah you know what I just won't respect you, you won't get an invite to the white house or we won't be meeting you at all".. it's just crazy...
PS had to shorten the rant, was of course not implying that the respect bit is the root cause, certainly not. All the torture and killings committed over there are on them, not on anything else. BUT, engage with them, and even sometimes do something unexpected as invite them and go the extra mile to change the status, because remember, the Putin/USA relation became under Obama, then hyperbad in the Russia collusion crisis, pushed on us by the MSM and an either incompetent FBI, or highly ethically conflicted, while also bending over backwards to appease to virtue signallers, sometimes even in your own family (remember Comey has like 4 daughters and a wife and they all went to the women's march against Trump/never trumpers the day after Trump's election.. and that guy was not somewhat influenced? really? ESPECIALLY after the left hated him when he spoke out against Hillary.. he wanted back into the circle, from which he was expelled and his family was really pissed at him -- all were Clinton supporters. Really, you trust that narrative? Of the guy who was the head of the FBI at that time and then "not leaked but released"-- even Anderson Cooper didn't take that BS, come on now) :D ok rant over :D
Anon (10"59AM),
Excellent post!! It is long but well thought out and I could have easily written much of it myself. We are in material agreement here. As such, I'm really not sure why you would want to "trash me." Before commenting on a post I always try and read the post that I am commenting on thoroughly and will often try and reread the post. Since you have felt you needed to trash me perhaps you did not read my posts thoroughly in there entirety.
With the exception of the need to trash me your third paragraph is especially apt. The term you use for such actions is "INSANE." I tend to agree. In fact, I've used similar language to describe such actions on this website in the past. I especially agree with your terminology you use of "tough, but fair and not insulting." I might add the "Cold War mentality" risks hot war. Hot war with Russia is not something we need right now, can't readily afford it, and may not be able to win it.
Again, overall excellent post. I could have easily written much of it myself. Constructive dialogue on these issues is always appreciated.

"Engage with them...." Essentially I agree. This is keeping in mind "tough, but fair and not insulting." Certainly inviting the Russian leader to the White House or something like this has no downside risks that I can see coupled with upside potential. Depending upon which Forbes list of world's most powerful people one consults the Russian leader is either most powerful or second most powerful person on the planet. Obviously it seems to me that in order to accomplish much of what we need to accomplish we are going to need some kind of constructive relations with Russia. This does not necessarily mean we are going to be allies or even friends.
Poster: you are all to obvious a Russian troll
Trump will change, ameliorate, or become more circumspect.
What makes Trump effective is that he is a bull in a China shop.
All the other politicians are so circumspect, timid, cowed, and politically correct that they do not get anything done. Nothing good anyway.
B Poser is obviously a Russian troll. Thing is that they now use the ID of real people. Time to make a call and see who is who. I'll let them call the authorities.
Agree, anon12:49AM, Trump's effectiveness comes from his unorthodox SOP. A bull in the liberal and others' China shop and it's soooooooooo refreshing.
And fun!
To what specifically are you referring that would make me a "Russian troll?" It would be helpful if I knew to which specific post you are referring and to which specific disagreement you may be referring to. Generally the definition of internet troll is someone who gets off topic and insults others either for personal pleasure or some other sort of gain. As I have never deliberately insulted anyone here and I try to stay on topic, I cannot meet the definition of troll.
Please cite specific areas of disagreement and if they are within the scope of this particular post we can address them. I do not claim to have a monopoly on knowledge or to know everything. Constructive dialogue and critique is always appreciated.
In keeping with what has been discussed thus far "tough but fair, not insulting" are exactly how I would suggest dealing with Russia. Obviously we have to defend and even expand our core interests. I would suggest this is the approach that president Trump has been using. In one of the editor's posts late last year, it was suggested that Putin and Xi had rough years in 2018. I tend to agree and IMHO the primary reason has been Trump's policies towards those two and the countries they represent.
I think the bull in a China shop analogy is spot on. Perhaps not here but elsewhere I have used the term "bull in a China closet" to describe this situation. Essentially many of us (Americans) recognized our foreign and domestic policies were failing and needed to be changed. As such, we did the only thing we could and voted for Trump as the only candidate offering a different direction that seems remotely viable.
"B Poser is obviously a Russian troll. Thing is they now use the ID of real people. Time to make a call and see who is who. I'll let them call the authorities." Again, please state specific areas of disagreement and they can be addressed. If I am in error, constructive critique is much appreciated. If you want to "make a call," I have provided ample information elsewhere on this site whereby you may be able to contact me. I suspect you will not do this because it will only confirm that I am not Russian, you already know this, you are trying to discredit me for some reason, and you cannot do so logically. Therefore you resort to name calling.
I suppose you could "call the authorities." As there is no basis to do so, this would/could create problems for you as they are quite busy and DO NOT like being interrupted to satisfy someone's petty dislike for another person. There would bound to be blowback against you for such an action. Furthermore if you were to call the authorities on me you would need to do so regarding the other posts here as well. I am in material agreement with everything posted thus far on this thread. There's no reason to single me out for abuse. All I have done here is exercise my right of free speech.
You people gonna see that you should have lived your own hearts its called falsehood see
If B Poster is a Russian troll, it would be worth it to look at others.
