Politico: Bolton unloads on Trump’s foreign policy behind closed doors

The recently fired national security adviser made little secret of his disagreements with the president.

John Bolton, President Donald Trump’s fired national security adviser, harshly criticized Trump’s foreign policy on Wednesday at a private lunch, saying that inviting the Taliban to Camp David sent a “terrible signal” and that it was “disrespectful” to the victims of 9/11 because the Taliban had harbored al Qaeda.

Bolton also said that any negotiations with North Korea and Iran were “doomed to failure,” according to two attendees.

All the North Koreans and Iranians want to do is negotiate for relief from sanctions to support their economies, said Bolton, who was speaking before guests invited by the Gatestone Institute, a conservative think tank.

THE BIGGER STORY UNFOLDING

I like Bolton. I like him better than McMaster who was on Trump's team. I like it when McMaster left and Bolton joined.

However, if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. You need more than 1 tool in your toolbox and I am not sure that Bolton does.

I've wanted to see the Iranian leadershit overthrown by popular revolt since 2009. That is internal revolt not outside military action.

Bolton and others have not laid the groundwork at home for a war. It is not through a lack of trying, but there is much opposition from the lying media and others. Certainly, the Ayatollahs are fascists, but they have friends in people like Merkel and Macron and the groundwork for war has not been prepared in the US.

Do you think that following the Iraq II fiasco American people are less likely to support another illegal war? You want to send your kids to die for zip?

Anon, I agree with your assessment of Bolton. A one trick pony.
McMaster, on the other hand, is said to have taken a poorly performing US unit and shaped it into a lethal and successful fighting force. A book being written years ago about this. That shows, to me, that he knows more than Bolton about us as humans and what it takes to motivate us.

Anon (9:24),

Agreed. I like Bolton to. For the most sort I think he's a true patriot, however, I'm not enamored by how he's acted since his termination. As you say, he's like a hammer and is unable to adapt when other tools are needed. He appears to be to rigid lacking the flexibility to adapt and to adapt rapidly to fluid, dynamic, and rapidly changing situations.

Iraq II was not illegal. Saddam Hussein broke the armistice repeatedly.

"The legality of the invasion and occupation of Iraq has been widely debated since the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Poland and a coalition of other countries launched the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The then United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan stated in September 2004 that: "I have indicated it was not in conformity with the UN charter. From our point of view and the UN Charter point of view, it [the war] was illegal", explicitly declaring that the US-led war on Iraq was illegal"

I will give you that Putin's name was mentioned, however, in that respect your poor reading skills are exceeded by your inability to comprehend plain English. The decision as to the legality of Iraq II is neither Putin's nor yours to make. What is clear is your endemic lack of honesty suggesting a suspicious purpose in your presence on this site.

The UN is a joke. UN peacekeepers are good for raping women, but not so much keeping the peace.

The UN is is so virtuous that it puts countries like Bahrain, Eritrea and others on the Human Rights council.

Given the above you think I believe anything coming out of the mouth of Kofi Anan?

What blend of marijuana do you smoke? As dense as you are you must be smoking.
