Reuters: Trump picks hostage negotiator O'Brien for top security job
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday picked U.S. hostage negotiator Robert O’Brien as national security adviser, replacing hardliner John Bolton who was fired abruptly last week after clashing with the president on a host of issues.
O’Brien, who will be the fourth person to hold the post in the Trump administration, has served as Trump’s special envoy for hostage affairs at the U.S. Department of State since May 2018 and has a long history in Republican foreign policy circles.
“I have worked long & hard with Robert. He will do a great job!” Trump wrote on Twitter.
Trump fired Bolton after disagreements over handling foreign policy matters relating to North Korea, Iran, Afghanistan, Russia and Venezuela.

Trump's use of "great" is usually followed a bit later with the reason for firing the formerly "great" person when that person fails to properly suck Trump's dick.
A more appropriate motto for his red hats following re-election in 2020, if that should happen, would be, MAGTTA
Another yes man/woman in place of a real diplomat, expert or respected analysts. Making America Weaker Again!
Bob,
I think you misread the situation. For a leader to expect team members to align with their general outlook is not expecting someone to properly.... Generally people who can't or won't pull in the same general direction as the rest of the team and in the general direction the team leader sets should have the decency to resign or expect termination.
Generally when a team member is brought on the leader extols their virtues. Also, generally the leader is magnanimous when terminating a team member as POTUS generally is, howevwr, POTUS does have a propensity to hit back with devastating effectiveness when attacked.
I can think of a couple of instances where members were fired and for good reason such as Rex Tillerson and John Bolton. Obviously the circumstances of each situation are different but I don't think this is a case of wantibg someone to properly... but instead is a case of trying to get the right person in position for the right job.
Part of Trump's leadership style is selecting the right person for the tasks they are best suited for rather than leaders for all tasks. IMHO this is an excellent approach as it minimizes the chances of personnel being promoted beyond their capability.
What you have described is the desired environment a potential dictator cherishes. A wise ruler brings in ability for the value added, that person can provide. If that added value is going to be ignored, constantly, then the pool of possible intelligent candidates will dry up to the detriment of the country. There is much value in having "devil's advocate" facility. Trump has brought on many people who should have never reached the higher levels accomplished people attain. Many, many of his yes people have been dumped by him when it best suits his mood. Trump has yet to demonstrate, except in maybe two cases, an ability to attract and install ability which he ultimately lost due to his "way". The criminality and inhumanity of his regime is testimony to that.
If he is re-elected in 2020 it will because, A) his cult, strongly supported by gerrymandering etc., came out in droves, or, B) the wealthy still want him in and the College will support him.
It does not help at all that over the past three years the controlled justice system, supreme court or even congressional committees passed on taking action against him. After 2020 if he is returned, watch out.

MAGTTA = Make Americans grit their teeth again.
If you aren't gritting you teeth, perhaps you really aren't an American. Or maybe not even human. Are you a bot?
