Russian War Correspondent Does A Full Walk Through A Previously 'Classified' US Facility In Manbij, Syria

Zero Hedge: Full Video Inside 'Secretive' US Special Forces Base In Syria Released By Russian Media

After early this week American forces hastily abandoned their base in Manbij amid a general US draw down from the region, and a Damascus-Syrian Kurdish deal for reunion to fight the invading Turks, hawkish CNN pundit Michael Weiss lamented that "the Russian takeover of the U.S. base in Manbij is the first instance of Moscow claiming an abandoned U.S. military installation since World War II" (though Vietnam may have actually been the last instance).

The Russians did immediately roll in to Manbij, surprisingly in some degree of coordination with the Pentagon. A US defense official admitted, "It is essentially a handover" and added, "it’s a quick out, not something that will include walk-throughs, etc. Everything is about making out with as much as possible of our things while destroying any sensitive equipment that cannot be moved."

WNU Editor: Usually when a place like this base in Syria is abandoned, the looters move in within minutes. They did not do so this time, which tells me that there was some coordination between the U.S. and Russia so that when the Americans left, the Russians literally showed up a few minutes later.

Check out all the stocked drink coolers, cots, tents, tables, chairs (antennas) and even footballs! That's what's called a competent mil supply chain, Russia.

/Best base the Wagner Group's ever had.

Coordination.

Something that Congress did not do. They investigated steroids in baseball. Sure that was 10 years ago, but you get the drift. It is the type of thing they do instead of solving the budget deficit, debt, trade deficit, or voting on whether to go to war officially.

As such those laughing hyenas do not have a leg to stand on to criticize Trump.

My understanding is that after he gets the military modernized he will trim the military budget. So be it. It is either pay now or pay me later. The Dems would cut the military budget not to fix the deficit,, but simply so they could shift the funds.

MAGA!

Read Terry Prachett's book "Good Omens"

It is a good read the 1st 1/3rd. It becomes a bit of a slog, but the 1st 3rd is hilarious. All you really need to read is the 1st 10 pages and the sketch of the character Crowley, the snake of Eden.

Crowley works for the dark forces and is 'evil'. He does not mean to do anything wrong he just back slides into it. That is Congress and the Obama administration, when it comes to our involvement in Syria.

IMO we have every right to help the Kurds, pay Assad back for the Iraq War, Lebanon and more. It may not be in our interests (It isn't) to help the demonstrators as many are aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood. Still the justification is there.

There should have been a damn vote in Congress. Instead they backslid. Plus, they have their interventions, while gutting the military at the same time.

I like Terry Prachett. Especially this:

Lite the man on fire and you will keep him warm for the rest of his life."

I suspect that this was very well coordinated. This has been based upon meticulous planning and negotiations that have been ongoing for a long time with agreements culminated late last year involving multiple parties. There has been much reporting on this. In fact, the editor blogged on this late last year. Bottom line: if Turkish leadership continues on the current path, America and the Kurds will be the least of their worries. In fact the Erdogan government won't survive and the Turkish leader himself are unlikely to survive. If reports are accurate and I think they are, Trump was right to admonish him to not be a "fool."

Unfortunately for him he is making the classic mistake of allowing ideology to cloud his judgment. This seldom ends well. Generally over the decades when our (American) leaders do this they have been lucky enough to survive perhaps because America's power has been able to shield them. As America's relative strength has diminished considerably over the decades, such survival is less likely to pan out in the future for these people. Furthermore luck tends to run out.

Turkey has never had this kind of power. As such, the Erdogan government finds itself in grave peril now. This is actually favorable for the Kurds. Either Erdogan comes around and acts rationally or he is replaced by the powers in the region with a government more favorable to Kurdish interests. Furthermore the Kurds will now have security arrangements with Russia and Syria. Logistically and politically this is a much better option for them than have limited American support. Essentially the Kurdish security position is better than it has ever been and a mortal enemy (Turkey) is now in a weakened state.

I suspect, as the editor has pointed out, some in Turkey are realizing the error of their ways and are looking for a way out. I suspect that both Trump and Putin will offer them a face saving way out of this and this has already been planned for. After all Turkey has been talking bluster all along so I suspect the other powers took this into account. I'm not sure how many expected Turkey to follow through with such stupidity. Either they change course now and accept the humiliation associated with making the bad decision or face a worse fate. Sane people choose survival and advancement of their interests over ideology.

Meanwhile another brilliant move by Trump. Extricating us from the Syrian quagmire, advancing Kurdish security interests, and the added bonus of weakening Turkey a mortal enemy of the Kurds. On top of this being able to coordinate so well with the Russians on this suggests that good relations with Russia are being maintained at least in the top levels of the Trump Administration in spite of mass insanity on the part of the US political class. Very respectfully this is how adults do things!!

Anon (7:26AM),

I am full agreement with your analysis on "coordination." I would add with regards to modernizing the military Trump once stated that the first thing he did upon taking office was to modernize the nuclear arsenal. This had been neglected for quite awhile. Candidate Trump rightly questioned whether or not our arsenal would even work if needed. To the best of my knowledge, no one has come forward to challenge this assertion. As such, I think it is accurate. Our nuclear arsenal has been modernized, as has the rest of the military to a large degree.

Once the modernization process has been completed, in addition to cutting the budget, the number and scope of the missions the military is being asked to carry out will need to be trimmed as well. In other words, an end to the fruitless missions around the world that not only don't advance American interests but actually undermine them will be coming to an end.

The withdrawal of troops from Syria is an excellent place to start. Syria and Russia can easily fill the void and due to the logistical and political situation are able to actually fulfill this mission much better than we can. As for Erdogan, he will either come to his senses and suffer the humiliation of his current folly or he will face a much worse fate. The choice is for him and the Turkish leadership to make.

You mention the baseball steroid investigation. Not only did Congress not solve anything but the hurt some very good men in the process. As you say, MAGA!!
