Elite U.S. Military Panel Warns About ISIS After al-Baghdadi's Death

FOX News: Elite U.S. military panel's warning about ISIS after Baghdadi: 'Let's not let another one emerge'

A select panel of elite U.S. military special operators offered their insights and warnings for American policymakers after the Delta Force raid in northern Syria that killed ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in October.

"Guys like you have been a part of missions, just like the one that killed Baghdadi," said Fox News co-host and former reserve military officer, Pete Hegseth, in a special edition of Fox Nation's "Modern Warriors."

"I'd be remiss if I didn't take the opportunity to take our audience inside the team room as you're planning for an operation like this."

"I was on one that went into Pakistan where we thought the chances of dying were pretty high," said former Navy SEAL Rob O'Neill, who is credited with killing Al Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden in a raid on his compound deep inside Pakistan in 2011.

WNU Editor: A lot of wishful thinking here. The U.S. does not have enough boots on the ground in the Middle East to deter the rise of any radical Islamic group. This is something that the countries in the region will need to step up and work hard to deter. The U.S. can only serve in an  advisory/intelligence manner.

The key defense the US has is time and distance. Trump travel ban was a good defensive tactic. Countries with jihadi culture should be banned or under strict travel limits into the USA. Travellers need to be vetted carefully before entry.
Chain migration has to stop. Do this and the need for boots on the ground diminishes greately. Lives are saved. Applies to Europe too as it becomes more intune with Jihadi culture.

and from that source:
"Mann concluded, by warning that America may come to regret it if the military completely abandons the world's most troubled regions."

and thus our policy under Trump is???

It would help if the US would stop doing the kinds of things that brought ISIS into existence in the first place. That is, it must stop doing what it did under GW Bush and Obama, that is wage wars of regime change. ISIS could not have come into existence in the first place had GW Bush never invaded and occupied Iraq. That mistake was compounded by Obama's destruction of Libya and his intention to use jihadi groups to overthrow the government of Syria, a plan that was scuppered by Russia. Trump is not included to do those kinds of things but the previous policies have to be explicitly overturned and we need to turn to cooperation with everyone who has an interest defeating terrorism once and for all whether we like that government or not otherwise.

They defeat regimes unfriendly to the US that they claim suppress their own people and then they work to install regimes friendly to the US, but, who then suppress their own people. It is really never about the well being of the people.

Carl,

Note the article and accompanying map of Africa and, if I recall correctly, a portion of the mid east that was shown on this site a few days ago. Those are assistance and training sites for indigenous troops. Some also run intelligence operations. No doubt missions to target some members of the religion of peace in defense of the host country call these bases home.
