New editions must not contain any content that goes against the beliefs of the Communist Party, according to a top party official. Paragraphs deemed wrong by the censors will be amended or re-translated.
Though the Bible and Quran were not mentioned specifically, the party called for a 'comprehensive evaluation of the existing religious classics aiming at contents which do not conform to the progress of the times'.

Why rewrite it when you can reinterpret it or use the many liberal interpretations from liberal evangelicals to liberation theology?
Still the Bible will get Xi and others like him in trouble. Because the Bible is a 'standard' and Xi and everyone else will be measured by it. It is a 2-edged sword. No amount of tinkering is going to change that. People will always see hypocrisy.
They may bow and scrape and pretend not to see it, but they see it.
Using the bible for dishonest state purposes will go as well as using Marx for state purposes.
