National Interest: SUNK: Thanks To China, Navy Submarines Are Becoming Less Survivable

And the Navy is taking appropriate measures.

Key point: China has a powerful, and growing, array of sensors support its anti-submarine mission.

The U.S. Navy is rethinking the way it deploys its submarines, all in order to help the powerful vessels avoid detection by increasingly sophisticated Chinese sensors.

“Get deeper,” is how Vice Adm. Chas Richard, commander of the 70-strong American submarine force, summarized his guidance. Richard spoke at a professional symposium in Virginia on Nov. 6, 2019. USNI News was the first to report Richard’s comments.

Richard and his staff reportedly are preparing a new strategy document, Vision 20XX, that will “outline the submarine force’s role in a future fight,” according to USNI News reporter Megan Eckstein.

Drones are part of the answer. Drones to find the arrays, drones to make noise to deceive the Chinese, drones to attack their submarines.

They are a bit like ground forces, without air superiority its kind of useless. Likewise without a surface fleet your subs are sitting ducks to aircraft.

That being said, submarines as naval bombardment forces is ridiculous, the primary jobs for submarines should be the destruction of surfaces vessels, while surface vessels focus on antiaircraft and land bombardment.

Cruise missiles are a joke, look at the Naval Bombardment of Syria, days later the airbase was operational again and they damage very few aircraft and that would of been the entire ships capacity.

Stealth is not a deterrent, huge overwhelming force is and China is heading that way, they will be unstoppable if they carry on at this rate, manpower, war machines, tech, they will be an unstoppable flood.
