DW: Russia, Ukraine agree to ceasefire by year-end at Paris talks
Russia and Ukraine have made progress on restoring peace in eastern Ukraine at a Paris summit mediated by Germany and France. In addition to implementing a ceasefire, the two sides also agreed to a prisoner exchange.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, agreed to implement a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine by year-end, following their first meeting on Monday at a summit in Paris mediated by France and Germany.
"The sides commit to a full and comprehensive implementation of the cease-fire, strengthened by the implementation of all necessary ceasefire support measures, before the end of the year 2019," according to a joint communique.

The summit was a great success. Macron had a great photo op and was seen as a player on the world stage.
His country is burning, but hey, he is a 'playah'.
Merkel got to look important too.
So long as you are deep state, whose job sector never sees a recession, then being seen 'doing process' is as important or more important than results.
The icing on the cake was Merkel could sit on her ample derrière and therefore it greatly reduced chances that people would see symptoms of her neurological disease.
An ounce of image is worth a pound of performance.
