Saudi Court Sentences Five To Death, Three To Jail Over The Murder Of Jamal Khashoggi



ABC News Online: Saudi Arabia sentences five to death, three to jail over Jamal Khashoggi murder

A court in Saudi Arabia has sentenced five people to death for the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was murdered in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul last year by a team of Saudi agents.

Khashoggi, an opinion writer for the Washington Post who was at one time a Saudi royal insider before becoming a critic of the leadership, was killed by lethal injection and then dismembered by a group of Saudi men sent from the kingdom.

Saudi Deputy Public Prosecutor and spokesman Shalaan al-Shalaan said the court dismissed charges against the remaining three of the 11 people that had been on trial, finding them not guilty. None of the defendants' names was immediately released.
