US, South Korea Fail To Reach Cost-Sharing Deal On The U.S. Military Presence

VOA: US, South Korea Fail to Reach Cost-sharing Deal as Deadline Approaches

SEOUL - The United States and South Korea failed to reach a deal on how to split the cost of the U.S. military presence, South Korean officials said Wednesday, just days before the current agreement is set to expire.

South Korean and U.S. negotiators "broadened their understanding" of each other’s positions during two days of talks that ended Wednesday, but must be prepared for another round of negotiations in January, South Korea’s foreign ministry said.

The United States had reportedly demanded that South Korea pay five times its current amount for the cost of the approximately 28,000 troops that are stationed in South Korea. South Korean officials dismissed the demand as unreasonable.

Perhaps SK should start charging the US for being there.

Creative and Bullshit accounting.

I think the US should charge Canada for protecting Canada form Russia. Without that protection Yukon and Northwest territories would be Russian.

Why Bob? I served there in 84-85, and we were safeguarding them. Why should the US pay for that!!??

Other countries should be paying their fair share - Period! I don't have a problem with the US paying some amount, even a lions share but the analysis should be in favor of that. Let's get this done!

If the South Koreans do not pay, then withdraw the US troops.

I agree that they should not pay for that and so if SK were to stop payment the US should just get out. Hell they are in Japan a skip and a hop away and can re-occupy SK quickly if needed and NK are no doubt well aware of that happening.

At least if Kim launched a few nukes into SK you wouldn't want your boys and girls there anyway even if it meant NK was annihilated immediately afterwards.

That is I believe the most likely scenario that might happen as opposed to NK launching and invasion. Heck if they launch an invasion into SK they know the troops would pause indefinitely at the multitude of fast food outlets.

Yeah that went swell last time. It was called the Pusan Perimeter. You still drool over it like the God damn leftist that you are. It has so many opportunities for you to criticize the UN approved US led fight.

Any serious effort to help from Japan would need ships. You just are not going to transport a lot of tanks quickly with air lift. Any sealift could be intercepted by North Korean subs. Sure they would be sunk but until they were they could tear up and reinforcement for a few days or a couple of weeks.

What a sick fuck like yourself would be hoping for is for North Korea to give the US a fait accompli where it would be 'too costly' to eject the North Koreans. You are betting on a dovish president, who would cut and run at the first sight of difficulty.

You are not serious about the stationing of troops in Japan to protect South Korea,. If that did happen then you would rinse and repeat and demand that they be out of Japan too. You whole post is cynical and insincere.

PS The words that you wanted were "a hop, skip, and jump away" not "a skip and a hop away"

Like I said before, you belong in Lubyanka Prison or some similar place for being a failed troll. How much are you being paid anyway?

PS2 It is not "re-occupy" South Korea; we have a SOFA. Also we have many NATO members and others in the US and not all of them for training. They are in the US and we don't cry "Oh my God the Brits are occupying us!"

Nice choice of dishonest needling words though. So here is a thought. Why don't you come to America and get a degree in Leftist studies. You have the lingo down. Maybe you could transition at the same time. That way you would be authentic and be assured of getting A's and high praise from the Lefty professors.

Gibberish as usual.

If NK was on the cusp of launching multiple nukes into SK, you know an all or nothing action, would there be enough ships to enable the US military to evacuate its people in time?

Grow up and start thinking in today's world.

I have seen such plans Bobbie-boo. You cannot even call them by their proper name. So your addition to the discussion was pure Schiff.

Why don't you spend more time at the casino before the Muslim Morality police close it down

I refuted you in the first paragraph. You showed that you obviously have no knowledge of such plans.

In your post you accomplished nothing.

No Anon you got off topic. Perhaps if you re-read the posts you might understand. When you do re-read them, do not focuss on what you think you might want to say in response, but for but on understanding what the issue is about.
