Hamid was from Sacramento, He is buried in a cemetery there now. He was originally from Iraq and became a US citizen on 2017.
My guess and it is just a guess since the excrement media does not usually research such things, is that he may have been an interpreter in Iraq between 2003 and 2011. Muslim or not, US servicemen go to bat for their interpreters.
